Sonar- EEE, or' Naugatuck, inthe countyA of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Im rovement in Rubber Boots; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accomanying drawings, forming part of this speci-l cation. i
This invention. has reference to improvements in rubber boots or shoes, 'and particularly/ to-t-li'at class of rubber boots or shoes having extension or welt soles to which outer Wearing-soles are attached.
One object of the invention is tostrengthen the boot or shoe at the juncture of the extension or welt sole withy the upper.
Another object of the invention is to so construct-a rubber boot having a Welt-sole member that t .e entrance of matter of any kind liable to injure the upper between the welt and the upper is prevented.
i Another obiect of 'the invention is t'o so construct a boot or shoe of this nature that resistance is offered to prevent undue curling lupwardbfthe welt to which the outer Wearing-sole is to be attached. l
.Another object of the invention i's to supply a resistance to the yundue flattening out of the upper'.`
The invention consists in the peculiar fea-v tures of lconstruction and .combination of parts, vas shall hereinafter be more fully de.-l scribed, and pointedout in the claim.
Figure 1 represents a side. elevation of the improved boot. Fig. 2 represents a bottom plan lview of the artially constructed boot,-y
sho'wing the location and arrangement of the improved Vstrengthening and Wearing reinforce-strip. Fig. 3- represents Aa cross-seetional view taken on line'3 3, Fig. 1.
ASimilar numerals of .reference designate co es 'onding parts throughout. t 'sinvention relates particularlytoimrovements in rubber boots or shoes having intermediate extension or welt soles to which extensions or Welts the outer wearing-soles,
, referably of leather, are securedby mechango-ical means, such as by sewing, the following description Will be directed to such a structure without thereby 'shown inV Fig. 3 of the drawings, and referably extending heel portion of the inturned arts of the uper, as 'shown `in Fig. 2. of this reinforce-strip 9 extends approximately in thesame plane as the corresponding surface of the sole 6, While-the outer expose edge ispractically vertical to suchl extension. The middle sole 11 is combined layers of rub er and cloth secured together with rubber-cement and has the welt or extension 12 extending `beyond the convex portions of the upper.
6 and cemente thereto, the'surface 10 o reinforce-strip .9 forms an extension-support, .which resists the tendencyv of the welt portions of the s ole 11 to curl to'ward the curve of the upper orvanip 7 when said sole 10 is rolled down. The` sole 11 being also cemented to such surface 10 of the Strip 9 becomes there- .b more eifectually secured to the upper tlieadditional body of rubber as we ,as the increasedlarea of surface presented bythe Surfacey 10. f
leather, is now attached to the surface o the sole 11 by rubber-cement and along its edge portions to the extension'or Welt 12 by inechanical means, preferably by the V stitches 14 14, reference to Fig. 3 of the drawings indicating while offering increasedsurface fr the securing of the sole 11 to the u per, f ere with the sewing of t ie sole 13 to the extension or Welt 12. y Reference to Fig. 3 will limiting the invention also indicato that while the upper 7 1s flexible to the features specifically described. Vto the line of the solo ofthe foot said upperis n carrying thisinvention into practice the l supported out of wearing Contact with the proximately triangular in cross-section, as. around the entireso e and.
The ower surface referably formed of The outer Wearing-sole 13, general-l of sewingportion ofthe upper j l er hen now this sole 11 is a plied to the surface of thesnle' that the reinforce-strip 9,.
do'es not intcr'- stitches 14t- 14, While the additional rubber in the strip 9 prevents the tearingv away of the upper 7 from the sole 11 and acts as an eX- cluder to prevent the entrance of send, gravel, or other materiel liable to cut or other- Wise injure the upperbetWeen the Welt and said upper.
Having thus described my invention, claim as new end desire to secure by Letters Patent- A rubber boot comprising a Welt-sole, an' upper secured thereto and a, rubber reinforcestrip located inthe angle formed on the eXterlor of the boot by the adjacent surfaces of the Welt and upper beyondtheir point of 1 In testimony whereof elir my signature in presence of tWoWitnesses.
