Application filed September 1904. Serial No. 223,314.
that the fo lowing is a full, clear, and exactk description thereof.
My invention has reference to refrigerating apparatus and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination ofparts,
as willbe fully set forth hereinafter in connection with the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
Inl the said drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of myimproved devices, taken f kmade of sheet metal, fpreferably galvanized support on the plane indicated by theI line 1 1 in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a like view taken on the plane indicated by the line2 2 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 in Fig. 1.
Referring by numerals to the said drawings, 1 2 designate the ends, 3 the front, and 4 the back, of an inclosing case and 5 the top thereof, the said case being open at the bottom. 6 6 6 6 designate the members of a skeleton frame, projecting inwardly from the ends, front, and back of the said case to sup- 'ort the refrigerator proper, which latter is iron, While the inclosing case is preferably of wood. The refrigerator 7 is double-walled, as lshown at8 8 8, at sides, ends, and bottom,
except at its front, which has an opening4 9 to glve access to the interior thereof, this opening being guarded and closed by a sheetmetal door 10, hinged to one of the doublewalled portions of said front, as best shown at 11 in Fig. 3. Each end of the said refrigerator 7 is provided with a series of strips 12 12, secured to the inner surface thereof, to
removable shelvesP 13 13. All portions of the interior of *the described double walls are in communication, and a pipe 14 leads into this space betweenthe walls to admit water thereto, so that said space may be keptfilled therewith, there being a cock-concontrolled outlet-pipe 15, leading from the 5o ybase of the refrigerator 7, to empty the said space, if necessary, at any time; but in use the interior of the refrigerator is always surrounded by water at side, ends, and bottom, except at the front opening 9, closed by tiA door 10.
16 designates an ice-box, of sheet metal, supported on the top of the described double walls, as shown, which may be filled with ice when desired.
The refrigerator7 does not come close to the inclosingcase; but an air-space (indicated as 17 17) surrounds the said refrigerator 7 between it and the sides and ends, and there being communicating airopenings 18 18 through the top 5. There is also awater-gage 19 communicating with the water-space 8 to indicate the height of water in the latter at alltimes, and the front 3 of the inclosing case is provided with a door 20, hinged, as shown at 21, while the top 5 is hinged, as shown at 22.
The ice-box 16 may have separate cover, if desired.
The surrounding water keeps the contents of the refrigerator fresh and cool in all ordinary weather, and should the water become too Warm at any time it can be withdrawn through the outlet-pipe 15 and fresh water substituted, while, if necessary, the ice-box 16 can be filled with ice, although this is seldom necessary. i
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The hereinbefore-described refrigerating apparatus, comprising an inclosing case of wood or analogous material, open at the bottom and there provided with a skeleton supporting-freine and provided with a hinged door and top 3 a doubleavalled sheet-metal refrigerator resting on said frame, and having a front opening covered by a protecting hinged door; and an open top; an ice-box resting on the top of the described double walls, the space between said walls .being in communication, at front, back, ends, and bottom; a water-inlet pipe communicating with the top of said double-wall space and a cock-controlled outlet-pipe communicating with the bottom of said space, and there being communicating air-spaces surrounding IOC the sides and ends of said refrigerator, bel the county of Milwaukee and State of Vis- `tween 1t and the sald lncloslng case, an'd the consul, 1n the presence of two Witnesses.
