Be it known that LFnrnnnrcn CARL Strn- PHAN, manufacturer, a; subject of -the Emperor of Germany,re'sidingi at Crimmitschan, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements and Relating to the Measuring of Fabrics, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to an improved method of carrying into.practice the inven United States Letters Patent, No. 713,524, dated November 11, 1902, relating to means for measuring and checking the length of cloths and other fabrics, by means of'which a doubled layers ofmaterial and woundnp together with the fabric in such a manner that the strip constantly alters'its position between the two layers of stuff during the windin so that never more than one convolution 0* the strip comes above another, whereby the formation of a protuberance owing to accumulations of thicknesses of the paper strip which would p'roducea mark in thin and deli-' cate fabrics is obviated.

While, however, in accordance with the said prior specification the winding operation must be interrupted each time the 'measuringguide it reaches the end of the beam g, this is not necessary. in accordance with the present invention, as the driving mechanism which forms the subject of this a plication moves the measure-guide not on y outward,-but 1 backward, thereby making unnecess the reversal of the measure-guide by han and obviating-interruptions in the winding and measuring operations, In order to attain this end, a ear-wheel is fixed upon the spindle of the fiictiomroll carrying the measurg ing-strip, this wheel: meshing with gearing. The gearing drives a chain, whichis carried 3 over two chainwheels. One of the of this chain is articulated to one-end of a rod, the other extremity of which is articulated to the Ineasuring-strip guide.
