GUSTAV PEETZ, OF NEI/V YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR, BY
TO THOMAS J. MORAN, OF ARLIhKSf'fOhT,l
NEW JERSEY.
lRONlNG WAX-PAD.
Speccaton ofi Letters Patent.
meenten May 22, 1906.
Application filed August 24,1903. Serial No. 170,507
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, GUsTAv PEETZ, a citizen of the United States, residing in the bor ough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Ironing Wax-Pads, of which the following is a Specification.
In carrying out my invention I employ a base and a backing upon Vwhich are superimposed and secured connected sheets of waxsaturated material. Over the connected sheets of wax-saturated material I preferably employ a sheet of paper and an outer layer of fabric, which latter parts are Secured to the base by a suitable binder.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is aplan of my improved ironing wax-pad; and Fig. 2 is a section, on a larger scale, at line x Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a partial cross-section of a modification of my improvement.
a represents a base of cardboard or other suitable material, and I have shown the same as rectangular; but it maybe of any desired form.
I) is a backing, preferably made of the same material as the base a, and corresponds to the same in outline, but is of smaller area. The backing l) is secured to the base a by any means known to the art and in such a position that there is a border, equal on all sides, around the base.
c d are sheets of wax-saturated blotting-V paper or other Suitable material similarly treated, of the same size and shape as the backing and are secured together and to the backing b in any manner whatsoever. I also employ a sheet of Manilaor other paper e and an outer layer of cheese-cloth or other and both the paper e and the fabric f extend over the entire upper surface of the sheet d of waX-saturated material, over all the edges of both sheets c d of the waXsaturated material and the edges of the backing l), and over a portion of the surface of the border of the base a and are secured in position by a binder g, which overlaps the edges of the paper e and fabric j and passes over the edge of the base a and is secured to the under side thereof.
As shown in Fig. 3, I may employ a sheet of waterproof paper t of the same area as the sheets of wax-saturated material c and placed between the same and the backing in order to prevent the backing b and the base a from becoming saturated with wax.
The special object of this assembling and connecting the parts is to prevent the waX flowing and escaping under the heat of the iron when placed on top of the pad, as tze melted wax retained within the closure is at once taken up again by the blotting-paper or other similar suitable material upon the removal of the heated iron, and thus all of tie Wax with which the paper is charged is available for use without waste.
It is obvious that the sheet of paper e or the fabric f, or both, may be treated by an application of Wax previous to making up the pads, so as to make more positive the dissemination of the wax from the sheets c d in use.
I claim as my inventionl. As a new article of manufacture, an ironing wax-pad, comprising a base, a backing, connected superimposed sheets of waxsaturated material, a sheet of paper over said sheet of wax-saturated material, a cover of open fabric, and a binder overlapping the edges of said paper and fabric, passing over the edges of the base and secured to the under side thereof.
2. As a new article of manufacture, an ironing wax-pad, comprising a base, a back ing, connected superimposed sheets of waxsaturated material, a sheet of waterproof paper between the backing and tie said waX- saturated material, a sheet of paper over said sheets of wax-saturated material, and a cover of open fabric.
8. As a new article of manufacture, an ironing wax-pad, comprising a base, a backing, connected superimposed sheets of wax saturated material, a sheet of waterproof paper between the backing and the said wax- MESNE ASSIGNMENTS,
