- ed part or" the air-tube is screwed an so ,l ing-nut 22, the latter being held or confined in the forked or slotted end ole bracket 24, which is sup cried in a stationary position outside of the wind-box-as, for example, by attaching the bracket to the l'uehsuply pipe 11. The nut is always exposed for convenient access by an operator, and this nut may be turned mthin the forked or slotted bracket in e manner to adjust the air tube 18 in the direction of its length, thereby regulating the position of the valve member 19 with relation to the inner of the fuel tube or pipe 14 of the binner.
:25 designates e valve-stein which extends longitudinally through the cir-tube 15-}, 2: the inner end of this s i provided with 22 valve 26, the r e flared or coni 4 lottei us. face adapted to be seated against the outer face of the val member 19 on the sir-tube 18. The outer end of the valve-stein :25 is prolonged or extended beyond the threaded part of the sir-tube 18, end said vnlve-stern also provided with an exterior thread "27, which is screwed into a, threaded opening provided in the closed end of the latter being in turn screwed on the threaded end 21 of the air-tube. The projecting or exposed end 27 of the valve-stem 25, is provided with a hand-Wheel 29 or ither suitable device for turning the valve-stern, thus melting provision for adjustment of the valve-stem 25 and the valve 26, so as to regulate the ares of the opening through which the eir is diecharged at the inner end of the sir-tube 18.
By reference to the drawing it will he seen that the inner end of the fuhl-tube 14 and the flared end 19 of the air-tube are extended or carried through the openings 7 8 of the shell 5 and the lining thereof. The inner ends otthe fuel and air tubes, coinprising1 parts of the burner, ere thus projected WGl into the combustion-chamber 5 and the is supplied to the iieme at the inner end tithe burner through the openings 7 8* and through the inner end of the air-tube 18, thus equalizing the voluine and pressure of air which is supplied to the flame. it-Will be observed also that the valve 26 may be edjusted independently of the eirtube, because the hand-Wheel 29 on the stem 26 may be, turned in the cap 28, so as til-very the distence of the valve 26 from the {ls-red; mouth or valve member 19 of the sir-tube. The tube 18 may also be adjusted by turni the ment to the to nut in a direction to im Jert endWise moveend 0 nnge the posltlon of its valve member 19 With relation to the end of the l uel-tube 1%, whereby the control the fuel and of the air may be changed to admit greater or less volumes of fuel or air, or both, in order to maintain an intense or modifled bent in the combustion-chamber 5.
in the operation of the burner the fuel is curried through the pipe 11 and its elbow 12 to the coupling 13 and through the annular 5 provided between the tubes 14 18.
l finds its exit at the inner end of the around the ils'red mouth or ember 19 of the tube 18. The air from the illd lJOX C is free to pass through the openii :20 into the air-tube 18, and the air under pre sure is forced through the flared end or valve member 19 within the ennuler caused by combustion of the fuel which supplied by the tube 14. At 1 same time the sir from the WindboX is pass through the openings 7 8 of the i 55, air is thus supplied to the flame 3O utlnn and without the same, whereby the combustion of uel is maintained to the best advantage Within the combustion-chamber Tl Y heat and products of 'combustion free to pass from the chamber 5* directly 5 lto the working chamber oithe furnace.
eving thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters A hydrocarbon-burner, comprising a fuel- 9 tube end a simply-pipe thereionen sir-tube slideble Within the iuel-tube and rejecting beyond the letter at one end, and eving an external thread from this end end a controlling-velve for the fuel tube at its other end, e closing-cap ior theair-tube turning on. said thread end provided with a central thre: led opening, a valve for controlling the nii tuhe, provided with a stem having a e led portion Working in said opening, a. mo bracket supported on the supply-pipe, end a nut held thereby and Working on the same thread for eliecting the adjustment of the eirtube.
in testimony whereof I name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
