Description
No. 821,099. PATENTED MAY 22, 1906. E. A. 'HOLRITZ. COPY HOLDER FOR TYPE WRITERS.
APPLICATION FILED APR-10,1903.
UNITED STATES PATENT FEIEE.
EDWARD A. HOLRITZ, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JAMES C. BRAMWELL, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
-COPY-HO LDER FOR TYPE-WRITERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. May 22, 1906.
Application filed April 10, 1903. Serial No. 151,942.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD A. HOLRITZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Copy-Holders for Type-VVriters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in copy-holders designed to be attached to typewriters, its object being particularly to improve the construction shown in my Patent No. 708,554 of September 9, 1902.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a rear elevation of my improved co y-holder in open position. Fig. 2 is a simi ar view with the parts in collapsed position. Fig. 3 is a side elevation, partly broken away. Fig. 4 is a section on line 00 :1: of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail of a bracket forming part of my invention. Fig. 6 is a section on line y y of Fig. 3, and Fig. 7 is a detail of the top of the main standard.
In the drawings, 2 represents a vertical standard supported upon a clamping-base 3. The base 3 is provided with downwardly-projecting lugs 4 and 5, a thumb-screw 6 being threaded through the lug 4, by means of which the base may be fastened to the bottom of the rear of a type-writer. Slidable upon the standard 2 is a collar 7, carrying an arm 8. The arm 8 is doubled upon itself and carries at its upper end a collar 9. In order to hold the collar 7 with its connected parts supported at the top of the standard 2 and also to prevent said collar from turning when in lowered position, I provide the standard, as shown, with a longitudinally-extending slot 10 in its rear side, the upper end 11 of said slot being laterally extended. A screw 12 is threaded through the collar 7 and extends into the slot 10. The collar 9, carried by the upper end of the arm 8, fits over a post 13, extending upwardly from a bracket 14.
The post 13 is formed with a longitudinally extending slot 15, its lower end 16 being laterally extended and formed in its end with an enlargement 17. A screw 18 is threaded through the collar 9 and extends into the slot 15. The bracket 14 forms a support for a collapsible frame consisting of lower and up per cross-bars 19 and 20, connected by lazytongs 21. The lazy-tongs are supported. in extended position to hold the frame open by suitable catches 22.
In use the copy-holder is clamped to the bottom of the machine by means of the screw 6. The arm 8 is then raised until the pin 12 rests in the upper end 11 of the slot 10. The copy-holding frame is then opened, as shown in Fig. 1, and turned until the pin 18 rests in the enlargement 17 at the lower end of the slot 15. parts are collapsed, as shown in Fig. 2, in which position the pin 12 stands at the lower end of the slot 10 and the pin 18 at the upper end of the slot 15. The screws 12 and 18 are each in function a pin, as will be evident.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a copy-holder of the class described, the combination of a standard provided with a longitudinal-slot having a laterally-extend ing portion with a downward extension at its end, a collar slidable upon said standard and carrying a pin projecting into said slot, an
When the holder is not in use, the.
arm carried by said collar, a post, a collar carried by the upper end of said arm and fitting over said post, a longitudinal slot formed in the side of said post and having a laterallyextending portion with an upward extension at its end, a pin carried by said collar and projecting into said slot, and a copy-holding frame'carried by said post.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD A. HoLRrrZ.
