provements in Folding and Adjustable Copy- Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, such as will enable others Askilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon ,which form a part of this specification.

My invention rela-tes to improvements in that class of copy-holders adapted to be used in connection with type-writers; and the object thereof is to provide a sim ple and cheaplyconstructed copy-holder which may be easily adjusted to any desired position with reference to the type-writer and when not in use may be folded, into a small compact form and closed out of the way in the desk with the type-writer.

While the essential features of my invention are necessarily susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Y Figure 1 is a perspective view of my irnprovedcopy-holder, looking at it from the side, as it appears adjusted and ready for use in relation to a type-writer, which is shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front, Fig. 3 a back, and Fig. -4 a side view of my copyholder in folded position.

Referring now to the drawings, l is an upright standard or member, which is tightly pivoted at its lower end betweenthe upright portions of the L-shaped plates 2, which are securely attached to the top surface of the l type-writer board or table B directly back of the plates 2 that it has a double-hinge action therein when subjected to force, and said plates are so arranged with respect to the -tending practically the entire length thereof,

is pivctally connected to the upper end of the standard 1 by means of the bolt h', which passes rst through a suitable aperture in the upper end of the standard 1 and then through the elongated slot 5, where it receives the thu rnb-nut 7 for tightening and loosening said joint. By this construction the arm 4 not only has a pivotal motion with relation to the standard l, but its length may be easily regulated, it may be retained in any desired position by tightening the thumb-nut 7, and it may be folded when not in use down into close parallel relation to said standard 1.

Pivoted to the upper end of the arm 4, on either side thereof, by means of the bolt 8 and thumb-nut 9, which are similar in operation tothe bolt 6 and nut 7, are the short L-shaped arms 10, to which the book or copy holder is rigidly secured by means of the rivets 11 passing through "corresponding apertures in said arms 10 and plate 12. The copy-holder proper consists of the at plate or table 12, of suitable size and material, the flange 13, thrown out from the lower edge ofy said plate for supporting the copy or book, and the springclamp 14, which is attached to said Iiange 13 in such manner that it bears upon the surface of the plate 12 and permits the insertion of copy between said clamp and plate.

It will be readily seen from the above description when taken in connection with the drawings that I have provided a copy-holder which is capable of being adjusted at any desired angle with relation to the type-writer and which may be folded when not in use into practically the space occupied by the single upright standard 1, and when so folded the whole may be drawn toward the type-writer on the pivot at the lower end of said standard, thus permitting the holder to be folded in the desk with the type-writer.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l; In a copy-holder, the combination of means for holding copy, an arm having an elongated slot extending practically its entire IOO length, said copy-holding means being pivotally attached to one end of said arm, an upright standard having its lower end attached to a stationary object and its upper end pivotally connected with the slotted portion of said arm in such manner that said arm may be moved lengthwise across said standard and at any angle thereto and mayube folded down alongside of said standard in close parallel relation thereto, and means for rigidly hold- Aing said arm in any desired relation with respect to said standard. t

2. In a copy-holder for type-writers, acopytable, consisting of a flanged plate and a spring-clamp, a short arm rigidly attached to said copy-table, a long arm having an elongated slot therein, said short arm pivotally connected to'one end of said long arm, an upright standard, means rigidly secured to a type-writer table or other stationary object to which said standard is pivotally attached at its lower end, said long arm being so connected to the upper endof said standard that it may be moved in any angle in relation to said stan dard and may be folded down alongside of said standard in close parallel relation thereto with said short arm at a right angle to said standard, and means for holding said long arm in rigid adjustment in any desired position, substantially as described.

3. The combination, withatable, of a copyholder, said copy-holder comprising a copy or book support, an arm to which said support is pivotally attached, an elongated slot in said arm, an upright standard pivoted at its lower end to means rigidly attached to said table and at its upper end to said slotted arm in such manner as to permit the latter to fold down alongside of said standard in close parallel relation thereto, 'to-be movable longitudinally across the top thereof and to be held in any position in relation thereto, substantially as specified.

4. The combination, with a desk or table, of a copy-holder, said copy-holder comprising a standard pivotally secured to said desk, a slotted arm pivotally secured to upper portion of said standard and carrying at its outer extremity a copy-support, said support being pivotally secured to said arm, the said arm adapted to be turned upon its pivotal point of connection with said standard together With said support and folded in a close parallel position to said standard, substantially as described.
