To all whom, it muy concern.' Be it known that We, GEORGE Oris DRA- PER and CLARENCE E. METCALE, citizens of the United States, and residents of I-Iopedale, county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Rotary Ring-Spinning Apparatus, of which' the following description, in connection withI drawings, is a specificas on the drawings reprewill be fully described in the subjoined specii fication, and particularly pointed out in lthe2 following claims.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a rotary, ring and the cooperating parts embodying one form of our invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged diametral section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2, the do'wnho'ld of the ring-carrier being broken outtoshow some of the structure beyond it.f The Spinnin or'twistin ring 1 is herein shown as of t e doubleanged reversible type, the upper anges 2 constituting a race-7 way for the traveler 3 and the lower flanges 4 resting in an annular seat 5 in the ring-carrier. In practice this seat is of such size that thev lower flange of the ring can be forced thereinto and held by frictional engagement, so that the ring and carrier rotate as a unit. We have herein shown the ring-carrier as a metallic ring or annulus 6, having a thin de`v pending circular extension or downhold 7, provided with an external lateral lip 8 and vertically slotted `at 9, (see Fig. 3,) the slotting of the downhold and the thinness of the same permitting it to be slightly compressed l clearance between the bearing and the ange, as shown.
A holding-plate 13 is suitably secured to f the ring-rail 14 in any suitable manner, as by screws 15, Fig. 2, the plate having upturned ears 16, between which is snapped the' outer flange 17 ofthe casing 18. The casing is cy-' `lindrical in shape, and it has an' internal flange 19 to project over the lip 8 of the downhold, there being a clearance between to permit a limited vertical or axial movement of the ring carrier'. The combination with a rotary spinningring having an annular, transversely-convex bearing, of a casing having a beveled seat to coperate therewith and sustain the ring vertically, means to limit axial movement of the ring, and an annular contact member loosely surrounding the easing and interposed between it and an adjacent portion of the ring.

The `combination with a rotary ring having an vouter downturned flange'and an inner depending downhold provided with a lateral lip, of a fixed annular casing between said flange and downhold, an inturned flange on the casing to coperate with the lip and limit axial movement of the'ring-carrier, and an annular contact member loosely interposed between the casing and the downturned flange on the ring-carrier. y

The combination with a rotary ring having an outer downturned flange and an inner depending downhold provided with a lateral lip, of a xed annular casing between said flange and downhold, inner and outer flanges on the casing, the former coperating with the lip to limit axial movement of the ring, and a contact-ring loosely surrounding the casing between it and the flange of the ring and vertically sustained by the outer flange on the casing.

The combination, with a spinning-ring, of a detachably-connected ring-carrier having an outer downturned ange and an inner, depending annular downhold, Aa fixed cylindrical casing having at its top a seat to vertically sustain the ring-carrier, and acontactring'loosely interposed between the flange of the ring-carrier and the casing. 4
6. The combination, with a spinning-ring,
of an attached rotary ring-carrier having an annular, transversely-convex bearing and a downturned concentric flange, a fixed annular casing having a beveled seat to cooperate with the bearing, and a contact member rotatably mounted on the casing and loosely interposed between it and said flange.

The combination, with a spinning-ring, of an attached rotary ring-carrier having an lar casing having an inverted conical seat for the bearing and to permit slight tipping of the ring-carrier, means, including a compressible member on the latter, to limit axial movement of the ring-carrier, and -a rotatable contact-ring loosely interposed between the casing and the flange on the ring-carrier. 8. The combination with a spinning-ring, of'an attached rotary ring-carrier, a fixe casing to verticallysupport the ring-carrier, means to limit axial movement thereof7 and means, including a contact-ring loosely surrounding the casing and cooperating with the ring-carrier, to limit radial movement there- 9. In ring-spinning apparatus, in combination, a ring, a rotary carrier therefor having a downturned outer flange, a fixed annular casing to vertically sustain the ring-carrier, and a contact member loosely interposed be- .tween the casing and the flange, to limit radial movement of the ring-carrier.

The combination with a rotary ringcarrier having a depending, slotted downhold provided with a lateral lip, and a downturned annular flange, of a fixed cylindrical casing adapted to engage and vertically sustain the ring-carrier between the downhold and flange, and an internal flange on the casing to overlap the lip of the downhold.

The combination, with a spinning-ring, of an attached rotary ring-carrier having an annular, transversely-convex bearing and a downturned, concentric flange, a fixed annular casing having a beveled seat to coperate with the bearing, and a contact member loosely mounted on the casing between it and said flange. l

The combination with a rotary spinning-ring provided with an annular, transversely-convex bearing, of a casing having a seat to coperate tangentially with the bearing and sustain the ring vertically, coperating devices on the casing and movable with the ring, respectively, to limit axial movement of the latter, and an annular contact member loosely surrounding the casing and between it and an adjacent portion of the rm lgn testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
