Description

PATENTED MAY 8, 1906.
C. S. ALDERMAN.
HOSE NOZZLE APPLICATION FILED JULY 27, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 1906.
Application filed July 27, 1905. Serial No. 271,397.
1'0 0.46 whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES S.ALDERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Nozzles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a hose-nozzle having a deflector at the forward end thereof upon which the water strikes as it emerges from the duct in the nozzle to be spread into a wide stream or sheet and be discharged fromthe deflector in a shower or spray.
Figure I is a perspective view of my nozzle. Fig. II is a cross-section taken through the deflector on line II II, Fig. I.
1 designates the nozzle proper, which is provided with the usual duct 1 2 is the deflector, which is made integral with or secured to the nozzle proper in any suitable manner and which is in the form of a plate of considerably greater width than the diameter of the forward end of the nozzle. The deflector is provided with a centrally-located arch or crown 3, located directly in advance of the duct through the nozzle proper, so that as the water emerges from said duct it will strike upon said arch or crown and will be spread into a thin sheet laterally from said arch or crown on the deflector. The deflector is curved upwardly at its edge both at its sides and forward end, as seen at 4, in order that the sheet of water produced by the arch or crown will be directed in an upward course as it flows both laterally and forwardly off of the arch or crown, thereby providing for the water being discharged from the deflector in a manner to cause it to rise above the deflec= tor to fall to the ground in imitation of a rain= shower. At the edge of the deflector are a plurality of serrations 5, that tend todivide the sheet of water as it is discharged from the deflector, whereby the sheet is converted into jets, as a result of which the water as it falls to the ground separates in said jets into drops.
I claim as my invention 1. A hose nozzle comprising a nozzle proper and a deflector at the forward end of said nozzle having an arch centrally located therein.
2. A hose nozzle comprising a nozzle proper and a deflector at the forward end of said nozzle having an arch centrally located therein said deflector having its edge curved upwardly from the base of said arch.
3. A hose-nozzle comprising a nozzle proper and a deflector at the forward end of said nozzle having an arch centrally located therein; said deflector having its edge curved upwardly from the base of said arch and provided with serrations.
CHARLES S. ALDERMAN.
In presence of NELLIE V. ALEXANDER, BLANCHE HOGAN.
