FORM FOR TROUSERS.
No. 820,203. I
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 1906.
Application filed September 21I 1905- Serial No. 279,563.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALICE J ONES, a citizen a resident of Dehesa, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and Imroved Form for Trousers, of which the folowing is a full, clear, and exact description;
This invention relates to a device for preserving the shape or form of trousers when pressed.
The device is also adapted to be used for the purpose of facilitating the pressing of the trousers.
The object of the invention is to produce a device of this class which is extremely simple in construction, at the same time being durable and easily applied.
A further object is this class which can trousers when in position in the same, so as to be placed in a drawer or in a trunk.
The invention consists in the construction to be described hereinafter, and definitely set forth in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective showing a pair of trousers to which the device has been applied. Fig. 2 is a plan of the device in its open position. Fig. 3 is a plan of the device in its folded position; and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section, on an enlarged scale, through the device when in its folded relation.
Referring more particularly to the parts, 1 represents the. device, the shape of which is very clearly shown in Fig. 2. It comprises a body-piece 2, a hip-piece 3, and a lower piece 4. The ieces 2, 3, and 4 are preferably formed of sheets of cardboard, papiermach, sheet metal, or similar material cut to the proper shape. The members 3 and 4 are at-' tached to the body-piece 2 by flexible joints 5, formed of a layer of material, as indicated in Fig. 4. These joints extend entirely across the body-piece 2, so that the members 3 and 4 are adapted to fold thereupon, as indicated most clearly in Figs. 3 and 4.
When the members 3 and 4 are extended, as shown in Fig. 2, the device presents substantially the outline of a pair of pressed trousers viewed from the side.
In applying the invention in practice two of the devices are used to correspond with to provide a device of be folded up with the the trouser-legs, one being inserted in each leg, as indicated most clearly in Fig. 1. When inserted as suggested, the trousers may be allowed to lie in an extended position or they may, if desired, be folded up, in which case the folds would of course occur at the joints 5, referred to above. From this arrangement it will be evident that the form of the pressed trousers will-be maintained irrespective of whether the trousers are folded or not.
While the device is intended primarily to be used to preserve the shape of trousers which have been already pressed, it is also well adapted for facilitating the sp onging and pressing of the trousers. When used in this connection, the device would be applied within the trouser leg which is being sponged and pressed. In this way the forward and rear edges of the form assist in forming the creases of the trouser-legs at the proper points and assist also in producing a crease with an iron or similar creasing device.
The invention is considered superior to similar devices which are formed of frames constructed of bars and adapted to be applied within the trouser-legs, because these frames must be of substantial dimensions in order to preserve their form, and in this way they operate to prevent the preservation of the creases at the front and back. With my improved device constructed, as it is, of a thin plate-like material the disadvantages referred to do not occur. Constructing the form in three panels or flaps 2, 3, and 4 is considered highly advantageous, as it enables the trousers to be neatly folded, as described above.
Having thus described my invention. I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A trouser-form having substantially the outline of a pair of trousers and adapted to be inserted in the leg thereof, said form comprising a bodyiece, a hip-piece and a bottom piece, said 'p-piece and bottom piece having a flexible connection with said bodypiece whereby they may be folded thereupon.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALICE JONES.
