Patented-April 24,1906.
Application filed May 31, 19 05. '-$erial a. 263,100.
- To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, ALONZO J. HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States; residing at Hypoluxo, in 'the county of --Dade, State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor-Flows; and I do hereby declare .the following to bee full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,- such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it 'appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to plows in general,
and more particularly to the class of motorplows, the object of-the invention being to provide a cheap and simple construction wherein the plow may be operated through the medium of a gas-engine or other suitable form of motor, other objects and advantages of the invention having reference to struc tural details that will be understood from the 7 following description.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification,and in which like numerals of, reference indicate similar'parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing an implement embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view'of the main cast frame.
Referring now to the drawings, there is shown a plow having two shovels 5 and 6, that are carried by standards 7 and 8, which are secured at their upper ends in openings in a frameS, which is disposed upon the for ward portions of beams 9 and 10, the said frame including a, narrowed forward-portion comprising sides 11 and 12, connected at their front ends by the transverse portion 13 and at their rear ends by the broadened rear portion 14 of the frame, which-projects later' ally beyond the sides 11 and 12.. The sides 11 and 12 are connected'by the transverse supporting-bar 15. V
The frame described is of cast metal and is disposed against the bottoms. of the beams 9 and 10, in which position it-is held by boltsinthe usual manner, these bolts being passed through ears 17 at the rear side of the frame and through the forward portions of the sides 11 and 12.
Formed integral with the forward portions of the sides 11 and 12 are bearings 18 and 19,
in which is received an axle 20, which rojectsbeyond the beams 9 and 10,'where' it is provided with traction-wheels 20 -ar1 d 21. Each of the traction-wheels is provided spokes and 'through radial lugs 23 on the sprocket-wheel.
a ,sprocket-wheel- 22, secured against the outer faces ofthe spokes of the wheel through. the medium of bolts passed through the Upon the transverse support 15- of the frame is mounted a gas-engine 24, having sprocket-wheels 25 at the ends of its'shaft with which are engaged chains 26, that-engage also the sprocketwvheels 22, so that the traction-wheels are rotated. It will of course be understood that both wheels may be fixed to'the shaft or axle 20 and only one ofthe.
traction-wheels need be provided with a sprocket;
. Handles 27 and 28 are bolted to the-side 11 and 12 of the cast frame, as illustrated, and are provided with the usualbraces '28- connected to the rear ends of the beams, and the handles are furthermore provided with the cross-bar 21.
What is claimed is A motor plow comprising laterallyspaced beams,. an' integral frame provided with shovels secured to the beams on their under sides, said frame comprising an enlarged rear portion and a narrowedforward portion; said forward portion including parallel sides con;
'nected at their ends by an integral end portion, a-motor-support connecting the sides intermediate the rear portion of the frame and the said end portion, bearing-blocks formed on the sides of the frame adjacent the end portion, an axle mounted in said' 'bearlug-block, traction-wheels mounted on said axle, a sprocket-wheel carried by each of said traction-wheels, a motor mounted upon the said motor-support, sprocket-wheels carried by the'shaft of the motor and a chain connect ing each pair of sprocket-wheels.
Intestimony whereof'I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALONZO J. HOLLAND.
