Letters Patent No. 81,890, dated September 8, 1868.
-IMPROVED ANTI-SLIPPING PLATE.
dite rtetnle referat fait ttes: ster pmnt :mt mating part tilt: anni.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that we, W. B. GOULD, of Boston, Su'ollc county, and W. H. HARRIS, of Taunton, Bristol county, all in the State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Anti-Slipping Dish or Plate; and we dok hereby declare that the following, taken in connectionwith the drawings which accompany and form part of this specification, is a description of our invention sniicient to enable those slcilled in the art to practise it.
Our invention relates to the construction of an eating-dish or plate, designed particularlyfor the use of children, with reference to a provision for securing the same toaI table, eo that it cannot easily slip or be easily knocked o' therefrom; and our improvement consists in a plate, having combined with and forming part of it a iinger or clamp-piece, which lies parallel to the bottom of the plate, at a distance therefrom equal to or a little exceeding the ordinary thickness of a table, so that when the plate is placed upon the tab1e,tl1e finger extends beneath it, the nger being preferably provided with a clamp-screw, for fastening the plate. y
The drawings Vrepreseut,at A and B respectively, a plan and a cross-section' of a plate embodying our improvement.
a denotes the plate or dish, preferably made of metal, and either square or rectangular in formor round, or elliptic, as may be desirable.
The dish may be divided into tworor more parts by suitable partitions, b.
To the bottom or under surface of the plate we solder or otherwise fasten one end of a long bar, c, bending the bar, so that the other end (and the greater partof thebar) extends under and parallel to the plate, as seen at B, this bar thus forming a finger to slide under a tble when the p late slides upon the same, as seen at B, this finger-having sucient length, and lying near enough to the bottom surface of the plate, to hold the plate upon the table, though we prefer to` use the clamp-screw dfor the better .securement of the plate, as indicated at A. u v
The platebeiug thus fastened to the tableit will be readily seen that it cannot easily be dislodged therefrom, except by turning back the clamp-screw.
For children and feeble-minded persons the device is very desirable, in preventing waste of food and breaking-ot' dishes; and at sea, and in other. places where there is continual movement or` jarring of a table, the
invention will be found to be particularly. useful.
We claim a plat'e, provided with a device for securing it to. a table, substantially as set forth.
W. B. GOULD, W. H. HARRIS.
