UNITED STATES PATENT UEEICEQ NOSE-RING FOR ANIMALS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 27, 1906.
Application filed October 27, 1905. Serial No. 284,736.
To (all 1071,0717, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT I. TEETER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ellis, in the county of Cass, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nose-Rings for Animals and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to nose-rings for animals.
One object is to provide a nose-ring for animals wherein simplicity, economy, durability, and efliciency are'essential features.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a nose-ring for animals embodying such characteristics that it may be readily engaged with the animals nose without piercing the same.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a nose-ring for animals of such character that it may be automatically locked when engaged with the animals nose.
IVith these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional View through the pivoted ends of the curved members and longitudinally of the locking-spring.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the present invention comprises a pair of curved members 1 2, each having an enlarged spherical end 3, with its opposite end reduced, as at 1, and the extremity of the reduced end beveled, as at 5, for engagement in the notch 6 at the base of the reduced portion 4 of the opposite member, the said curved members 1 and 2 being pivotally connected at their reduced ends by means of a suitable pivot 7. It will be observed that the extremity of the reduced member 2 has a perforation 8 therein designed to aline with the perforation 9, formed near the base of the reduced portion 4 of the member 1, there being an inclination between the perforation 9 and the inner edge of the member 1, whereby the lug 10 at the inner end of the spring 11 may slide over the inner edge of the member 1 and engage in the perforation 9 to hold the spherical ends 3 of the members 1 and 2 tightly against opposite sides of the animals nose and whereby such pinching action is acquired as to positively prevent disengagement of the ring from the animals nose when he is being led from one place to another. The spring 11 is secured, by means of a pivot 12, upon the member 2 and its depending lug 10 through the perforation 8 of the curved member 2, so that an automatic locking of the ring against the animals nose is insured upon bringing the spherical ends 3 of the curved members 1 and 2 toward each other.
What is claimed is A device of the character described comprising a pair of curved members each having a reduced end resulting in a shoulder hav ing a slot therein, the extremities of each member being beveled for engagement in the slot of the opposite member, the said members also having perforations adapted for registration with each other, and a spring secured upon one of the members and provided with a depending lug for engagement in the perforations of both members to lock them against pivotal movement with respect to each other.
In testimony whereof I afhx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT I. TEETER.
