To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. SAcHsE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Horse-GollarPad, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to horse-collar pads, and has for an object to provide a devlce of the class embodying new and improved features of utility, adaptability, and efiiciency.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved form of pad for supporting the collar above and out of contact with the portion of the neck of the horse where the collar usually bears.

The rear saddle portion is represented at 10 with the internal padding 23, of felt or' other suitable material, and with forwardly-extending sides 24. the padding 23 bearing upon the horse and holding the extending sides 24 and the collar bearing thereon away from the body of the horse and preventing friction therefrom.

The padding 22 of the forward swinging plate extends at the lower ends between the side portions 24 of the rear plate and the body of the horse, and thus holds the forward ends of the sides 24 spaced from the body of the horse.

extending over the rear of the forward saddle portion, and connected at 16 17 to the yoke and rear saddle portion is a brace '15, the brace and yoke being of relatively thin metal, and thereby rendered somewhat yielding or resilient. Attached to the brace 15 by the pivot 16 and a rivet 20 is a plate 18, having upturned ends 19 and serving to sup ort the hame connections or collar. The sa dle portions are thus maintained in spaced position with an opening 14 between them, the opening coming above the point where the collar usually bears. Straps 21 are attached to the sides 24 to support the collar and hames.

By this simple means the neck of the horse is protected at the point where. the greatest friction generally occurs and where'the chafing is liable to produce sores. The saddle portions being hinged together will yield to the movements of the horse, and the yoke 13 and brace 15 being of yieldable material will also permit a sufficient de ree of flexibility-to prevent abrasion or chafing from undue friction.

The members 10 and 11 will preferably be of leather or like material.

Having-thus described the invention,what is claimed is- 1 1. In a horse-collar pad, a curved rearward plate having forwardly-extending sides adapted to support the collar, a pad within sai horse at the rear of the collar and holding said side portions and the collar bearing thereon from contact with the horse, a forward curved plate swinging from said extended sides, and a pad within said forward curved plate and adapted to project between rearward plate for bearing upon the Ice said extended sides and the body of the horse.
