Specification of Letters Patent.
' tenings fo'r screen-doors and other swinging I doors.
Its object is to keep the door properly closed without looking it or latching it in suchmanner as to'require any manual op" .eration of the fastening device.
The invention consists of a springmem'ber and a retalner-plate so constructed and ar- '{ranged as to practically hold the'door by friction, which friction'can be overcome by a push on the door, but is sufiici'ent to kee the door properly closed against'casual disp acement or openmg.
The invention resides in' the novel. construction and combination of parts as hereinafter described, and illustrated in the accompanyin drawings, in which- Figure 1 1s a sectional elevation of part of a screen-door with my novel catch ap lied thereto. Fig.2 is a .erspectiveview. 'o' the spring member of t e catch. Fig. 3 is a openings 1) for the passage of the'retainingstruction and size.
s milar view of the retainer-plate.
The door A can be of any suitable con- To one edge of the door, preferably the lower ed e thereof, is fastened the spring member of t e catch, which member is composed of a metal plate B, having screws 0, and to said plate is attached a bowed syilring D, which lies transversely of the edge oft as' shown in Fig. 1. One end of spring D- A is firmly connected to plate B by rivets d or in any othersuitable manner, and the free end d of the spring has a rubbing contact with the plate, so that the spring can beoflattened by pressure.
- and e door andprojects below the plate,
tise in the door-sill. Said-plate hasa 'concavity e'in its outer surface adapted to be engage 'by the SE g D',as shown in Fig- 1, and thushold t e door closed.
At the side to which-the doorfopens ratainer-plate' has an inclined .portion .e;
,which'as the'door closes-causes spring D' to' flatten until it passes .the apex c of the incline, at which point the concavit e begins;
The retainer-plate'is provided wit openin s .e for the assage of retaining-screws F.

flattening as it does so, but springing out into" concavity e and holding the door closed. .The
