To all idiom it nmz/concern.; Be it known thetl, FERDINANDW. Kwon, e citizen oi the UnitedStates, ende resident the State of Californie, have invented certain new und useful .lmirovementsin Centriinglj Pumps,
tion. f l
My invention is intended more articulnrly of which t 1e followingl ist,` speeificef to provide centrifugal pumps wit i ineens fori preventing leakage between thezstetionnry nndmovable ports while in operation.
In'cnrrylng out the invention I ineke use of.
' an od'nstoble packing-ring arranged to engege t e movable und stationery ports of the apparatus to make n tight joint between seid ports und one which may be also renewable to take up wenr.- Also I make this peeking rlng' self-adjusting so that it floats, es itwere,
upon the joint and maintains e perfect clos` nre, while accommodating itself to the relative movement of the parts. Also 1 provide nn adjustable undy renewable 'facing-ring which constitutes a. weer-surface. in the joint.
' Referring to the accompanying drawings, consisting of -three.sheets, Figure t is e fregmentery central section ofn centri i'ugal `pump,
' showing,r my improvements nppliedthereto.
Fig.`2-1s esection teken on dotted line 2 2 3ob of Fig. l'looking in the direction 'of the arrows. Fig. 3 is nn enlnr lred section of e part of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is e me. iiiention of tho sume parte shown in Fig. 3. l
In the drmvings, A represents the easing; B, the suction pipe or inlet, secured to the easing, and CA the impeller, provided withl rejecting neckD, moving within the casing. he abovedescribed ports nre shown in-.the' drewin ses applied to one side only 'of e centri ugnl u mp, which may be mounted vertically or horizontally-orotherwise, es desired, and it will be reedilyseen that theseme een be up- Sis plied tothe other side as well or wherever necessary. Howevenor the purpose of this jepplieetio' shallprefe to myimprovements sin 'lrlyif f rin is niostpreeticnlly mede of en L-shepe',

The ringA E 'has e second acliingfe,ce which ifi-ordinarily et right eng esto the iirsba mentioned one.v This second ieee 'enegesthe neck D' of the impeller yund prevents ealkege et that point. As the motion between the ring und the Aneet: is considerable,- 'intern pose between their engaging surfaces e feeingn'ing L. This facing-ring L contacts `with 85 Athe feces of the pncking-ring E and the neck D sind may bemede of any suiteblemeteri i;- In cese ofwear the rino* L may he token en and dressed or replecedj'by n new one.
in some ceses it may be desirable to seenrje'j 9o the fecin ring L to the peckingn'ing E ortof the necl), so thnt the relative movement is entirely between the ring and the other of said arts to which it is-not secured. in generati, consider it desirable rte employ ground faires between ell contectino parts.
Having thus described the nature end ob; z' f. jects ofmy 'invention and illustrated itsnp' plice'tion in practice, nndbelieving lfb reduced novel'gendavelueble im reve ent inthe ciasseff'ineehinery't jwhie; the A enf A e; er! the @purpose of'preventing leekeg'ey between thestctionery' sind arts', `I went it understood thetthe forego lng description and the drawings ere iiin` l' tret'ive merely end that the invention ine" n practiced in various forms et the' selection f the. mechanic',I with whiehnnderstnnding Whitt I clnunns new, and desire to serrure...v by lUnited States Letters Patent, is-- 1. .in the '..clnss of 'machinery described e' 'L pnckingring to prevent leakage between 'the Iinekeiiise oithefoliowin stationary and moving parts, consisting of a ring having suitable shape; brackets secured to saldstationary part, and provided with lprevent leakage between the stationary and moving parts 1n combination with a springbracket attached to the stationary part to ,press said ring against said part.
, Y3. In the class of machinery described, a packing-ring to prevent leakage between the stationary and moving parts, consisting of a ring having a right-angle shape; holes bored lupon said ring; brackets secured to the statlonary part and provided with pins by which sald rlng is secured to said stationary part,
rsaid pins being smaller in diameter than the diameter of the holes upon the ring, washers on said pins and springs around said pins between the washer and the brackets.
4. In the class of machinery described, a packing-ring of approximately L shape to prevent leakage between the stationary and moving parts in combination with a bracket attached to the stationary part, a bolt tapped into said bracket and extending into holes or sockets in the ring, said holes or sockets be ing of larger diameter than the bolt, a washer on the bolt and spiral springs between the washer and the bracket, to press the rim-fT into packing contact with the stationary part.
In testimony whereof I have aliixcd my signature, in the presence of two witnesses, this 8th day of February, 1904.
