Description
PATENTED MAE-13,1906. B. LEE.
. FLUTE STOP. 7 APPLICATION FILED APR. 1, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MILO B. EE, or COLUMBUS, OHIO. FLUE-STQP.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 13, 1906.
Application filed April 1,1905- Serial No. 253,303.
county of Franklin, and'State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flue-Stops, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to flue-stops.
The object of the invention is the provision of novel means for securing the flue-stop in position'to cover the flue. j
A further object is the novel way in which the securing means are held on the stopperplate and the novel way in which adjustments can be secured, so as to adapt the fluestop for a numberof different-sized flues.
The invention consists in the ordinary fluestopping plate, to which are connected springs in a novel way that are adapted to engage the flue to hold the stopper-plate in covering position.
r The invention further consists in the novel I arrangement and combination of parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointedout in the appended claims.
In the drawings which form part of this application, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved flue-stop. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, and Fig. 3 is an lsometrical view, of the device.
Referring more specially to the drawings, 1 represents the ordmary flue-stopping plate, which in this instancehas tongues or lugs 2 stamped from its face, which are adapted to engage and hold in position/apicture 3 of any suitable outline. Passing centrally through the plate 1 back of the picture 3 is a rivet 4, which is adapted to pivotally secure in place upon the back of the plate 1 a, clip 5, whlch is stamped up to form wire-receiving grooves or ways 6. These grooves or ways are adapted to receive the ends of bowed s ring-wires 7 and to hold them adjustable t erein. It will or course be understood that the adjustment of these bowed spring-wires is limited somewhat but they can of course be adjusted outwardly as far as they will hold within the grooves or ways 6 and adjusted inwardly until their ends meet. These spring-bowed wires are each formed entirely of one piece and are connected at their free or outer ends and are adapted to be inserted within the flue and to hold the stop-plate in place by reason of the friction exerted upon the sides of the flue.
The advantage of having the members of spring-wire and having them adjustable will be quite a parent, as chimneys have diflerent-sized ues.
Flue-stops are usually provided with ornamental designs or pictures upon their faces which have a top and bottom. In other Words, the ictures have a right side up. In order to always keep the picture in the proper position, I have provided the clip pivoted to the plate, so that should the springs not be tight in the flue in one position they could be turned to a position where they would be tight in the flue without disturbin the picture upon the stopping-plate. In all other constructions known to me this could not be done, and in some instances the picture has to be removed irom the face and turned around, so as to be vertical.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a device of the class described, the
' combination with a stopping-plate, of a clip pivotally secured to said stopplng-plate and provided with Ways, and bow-shaped springs I slidably mounted within said ways adapted to engage the flue whereby the stopping-plate is held in position. v
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
