APPLIoATIoN FILED JUNE 24. 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN GAMBLE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE A. REACH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CTCHERS MASK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 6, 1906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN GAMBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at corner Tulip and Palmer streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Catchers Masks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in catchers masks; and the obj ect ofthe invention is to provide a mask having pads of such form and secured in such manner as to absolutely prevent the pads from being displaced, and thereby allowing of the wires of the frame coming in contact with the face of the catcher.
The invention includes the particular construction of pad and the manner in which it is applied to the frame, as hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view; Fig. 2, an elevation, and Fig. 3 a sectional detail.
Referring by reference characters to the drawings, the numeral 4 designates the wire frame,` which may be of the ordinary or any desired construction. It is provided at the lower part with a chin-rest 5 and with a foreheadrest 6, connected to the frame by straps 7 and 8, as shown. The pads 9 instead of being made as round pads and fastened to the edge of the frame are formed as flat pads of suitable thickness and doubled over into U shape, as shown, thereby embracing the edge wires between the two parts of the U and eX- tending back a suflicient distance to prevent any displacement and obviate all danger of the wires of the frame coming in contact with the face. The pads may be held in place by metallic clips, such as indicated at 10, and
the pads may further be secured by stitching, as indicated at l1. The ordinary head-strap is irdicated at 12 for holding the mask t0 the hea Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- In a catchers mask, the combination with the metallic frame, of a plurality of U-shaped pads for contact with the cheeks and temples of the catcher, each of said pads being of U shape with the edge of the mask resting in the space between the inner faces of the side of the pad, and means for holdingl the pad in place, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aHiXmy signature in presence of two witnesses.
