ROTARY TOY FOR BABY OR DOLL CARREAGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 21, 1903. Serial No. 182,107-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SAxEN, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at orcester, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Rotary Toy for Baby or Doll Carriages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a rotary attachment for a childs carriage.
The especial object of this invention is to provide a rotating frame which is combined with or applied to a childs carriage in such way that it will rotate or turn when the carriage is moved, furnishing an amusement device or toy.
To this end this invention consists of the rotating platform for a childs carriage and of the combinations of parts therewith, as hereinafter described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of sufficient parts of a child s carriage to illustrate the application of this invention thereto, and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view showing part of the rotary platform and the supports therefor.
Referring to the accompanying drawings and in detail, the childs carriage may be of the ordinary or usual construction and may comprise frame-bars B, which in connection with the axle form the main frame of the carriage. The frame-bars B extend upwardly and are connected at their ends by the handle or cross bar H. Supported from the framework of the carriage by means of springs in the ordinary way is the seat S. These parts may be of the ordinary or usual construction and need not be herein described at length.
Mounted on the frame of the carriage I provide a block or support 10, extending up from which is a spindle 11 and an upright having a bearing-wheel 12. The spindle 11 is located at one side of the center of the carriage, and pivoted on the spindle 1 1 is a rotating platform or disk 13, which bears at one side upon the roller 12 and at the other side of the spindle 11 bears or rests upon one of the front carriage-wheels W. By means of this construction when the carriage is pushed along the rotating platform or frame 13 will be turned.
The central post 16 of the rotating platform may be provided with a canopy or cover 17, and a number of figures or other objects may be mounted on the platform beneath the canopy, so that the same will have the effect of a miniature merry-go-round or carousel.
To stop the rotation of the platform 13, I may provide throw-out or lifting devicesfor raising the platform out of contact with the carriage-wheel. As herein illustrated, these devices are intended to be operated by the foot of the user and comprise a lever 18, connected by a link 19 to a bell-crank lever 20, operating the lifting-rod 21. By the use of these connections when the foot-lever 18 is depressed the rotating platform will be lifted out of engagement with the carriage-wheel W and will be supported on the lifting-rod, so that the same will not turn or rotate.
, I am aware that changes may be made in practicing my invention by those who are skilled in the art, and although I have especially designed my construction to be applied to doll-carriages or other toy vehicles it may be applied to the full-size baby-carriages or the like. I do not wish, therefore, to be limited to the construction I have herein shown and described, but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. The combination of a rotary platform mounted on a carriage so as to engage one of the carriage-wheels, and connections for raising the platform out of engagement with the carriage-wheel, comprising a lifting-rod, a bell-crank lever operating the lifting-rod, a foot-operated lever, and a link connecting the foot-operated lever and bell-crank lever.
2. The combination of a vertical spindle carried by a carriage, a rotary platform j ournaled on the spindle so as to engage one of the carriage-wheels, a canopy over the platform, and figures mounted thereon, a bearing-roll for the platform, and foot-controlled connections for lifting the platform away from the wheel when it is desired to stop the operation thereof.
3. The combination of arotary platform mounted on a carriage so as to engage one of the carriage-wheels, and means for lifting the platform out of engagement with the wheel.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM SAXEN.
