Be it known that I, HARRISON GARNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norristown, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Loom-Shuttle Checks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to checking devices for loom-shuttles which are especially designed to prevent the rebounding of the shuttle after it enters the shuttle-box; and the objects are to provide a simple and eflicient device which may be secured to the back of the lay of any open-shed broad loom.

My invention consists of a shuttle-check comprising a support adapted to be secured to the back of the lay, a strap mounted over a semicircular rim on said support and having one end fastened to the support and the otherto an adjustable spring; and it further consists of the improvements hereinafter more :fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

My invention will be more fully understood, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a front View of so much of a loom as will serve to illustrate the application of my improved shuttle-check. Fig. 2 is an end view of what is shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the shuttle-check. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the same, showing the strap; and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the shuttle-check, showing the end of the strap attached to an adjustable spring.

Referring now to the drawings for a further description of my invention, A is the lay of the loom with the guide-frame a for the movable shuttle-box b. a is part of the loomframe, to which a bracket 6& is secured. On this bracket a is pivoted the picker-stick a, operated in the usual or any preferred manner by the oscillating lever 0 and strap 0".

c is the picker, attached to the picker-stick c by the strap 0" and is guided by the rod 0 in the usual manner.

S is the shuttle, impinging at the end of its race or course against the picker 0 which at this particular point is generally unsupported, Fig. 2, the picker-stick being some distance away from the point of impact, and therefore the motion of the shuttle S tends to force one end of the picker outwardly, causing great wear and tear on the picker 0. the weaver tries to overcome this wear and tear by placing waste or other cushion material back of the picker at this particular point; but this is found insuflicient, and I therefore provide the shuttle-check I), which comprises the support d, with semicircular rim d, lug or stud (Z and an extension (Z which preferably are cast in one piece. Owing to the semicircular rim d, against which the strap d impinges, considerable friction is produced between said rim and strap, so that by the impact of the shuttle S with the picker 0 the strap 03 is very slightly indented, and while forming a cushion at this point for the picker 0 the strap is so rigid that the shuttle S will not rebound from the.

It will be understood by those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit thereof. For instance, the same shuttle-check may with slight alteration be used with other than open-shed broad looms and may be placed horizontally instead of vertically, as shown, if occasion require it.

Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
