ABNER B. MAGOUN,
OF BRANTROCK, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED ENVELOP AND LETTER-PAPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1906.
Application filed October 2, 1905. Serial No. 280,887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABNER B. citizen of the United States,
State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Envelop and Letter-Paper, (Case D,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in stationery in which a rectangular sheet of paper has three portions thereof cut out to form openings, each of the portions thus cut out remaining attached at one side thereof to said sheet of paper and constituting a sealingflap and two end flaps for an envelop, whereby when the sheet is folded, as hereinafter described, these sealing and end flaps may be folded thereover and attached thereto, thus securely sealing the folded sheet and preventing inspection of any material which may be written upon the inner face thereof.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved letter-sheet and envelop combined in which a rectangular sheet of paper may be folded transversely and longitudinally thereof a number of times until the body of said sheet is folded into such shape that the two end flaps and sealing-flap hereinbefore referred to may be folded thereover and attached thereto in such a manner as to form an envelop and letter-sheet, all combined in in one piece of paper and securely sealed against the inspection of the writing or printing which may be upon the inner face of said sheet of paper.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claims thereof.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a sheet of paper constructed in accordance with my invention before the same is folded to form an envelop. Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 5 illustrate the same sheet folded. into different positions, each figure being a plan view. Fig. 6 is a plan of the sheet folded and the end flaps and sealing-flap folded thereover and attached thereto.
Like characters refer out the several views of Inthe drawings, 8 is a rectangular sheet of paper having three portions 9, 10, and 11 cut out to form three openings. The portions 9 and 10 are each detached from the sheet along the lines 9 9 9 and 10 10 10, re-
to like parts throughthe drawings.

paper and are parallel one to the The third portion 11 cut out of the sheet has also one side 14 thereof attached to the sheet of paper, and this side extends substantially at right angles to the attached sides 12 and 13 of the end flaps 9 and 10 and extends from one to the other transversely across said sheet of paper. The flap 11 constitutes a sealing-flap, and the flaps 9 and 10 are end flaps. Each of the flaps is provided upon its inner surface with gummed surfaces 16 and 17, respectively.
In using my improved letter-sheet the written or printed material may be placed upon the inner face of the same or upon the face visible in Fig. 1. The sheet is then folded transversely thereof in alinement with the attached side of the sealing-flap 11 or along the line a, Fig. 1, thus forming the sheet as shown in Fig. 2 second, the sheet is folded with the two sides thereof folded longitudinally of the sheet toward each other and along the lines I) b, Fig. 2, and into the posi tion illustrated in Fig. 3: third, said sheet is again folded transversely thereof along the line 0, substantially parallel to the attached side of said sealing-flap, thus folding the sheet into the position illustrated in Fig. 4. The sheet is then folded along the line (Z, Fig. 4:, bringing the sameinto the position illustrated in Fig. 5 in readiness for the end and sealing flaps to be folded thereover. The next step in the folding of the sheet consists in folding the end flaps 9 and 10 and the sealing-flap 11 over the folded body of the sheet 8 and fastening the same thereto by means of the gummed surfaces 15, 16, and 17, or said flaps may be attached to the body of the sheet by means of seals 18. (Illustrated in full lines, Fig. 6.)
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire by Letters Patent to secure, is
1. A sheet of paper having three portions cut out to form three openings, each of said portions thus cut out remaining attached at one side thereof to said sheet, two of said portions having their attached sides parallel to each other and constituting end flaps, the third portion having its attached side substantially at right angles to the attached sides of said end flaps, extending from one to the other and constituting a sealing-flap, said spectively. One side of each of the end flaps l flaps adapted to befolded over and secured to said sheet when certain portions of said sheet are folded over upon each other.
2. A sheet of paper having three portions cut out to form three openings, each of said portions thus cut out remaining attached at one side thereof to said sheet, two of said por tions having their attached sides parallel to each other and constituting end flaps, the third portion having its attached side substantially at right angles to the attached sides of said end flaps, extending from one to the other and constituting a sealing-flap, whereby said sheet is adapted to be first folded transversely thereacross in alinement with the attached side of said sealing-flap; second, the two sides of said sheet folded longitudinally thereof toward each other in alinernent with the attached sides of said end flaps; third, said folded sheet again folded transversely thereof parallel to the attached side of said sealing-flap, fourth, said folded sheet again folded transversely thereof parallel to the attached side of said sealing-flap and finally said flaps turned over and secured to the folded portion of said sheet.
In testimonywhereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- HGSSGS.
