Description
nitrntstr *germi @ffice FRIEDRICH NEUHAUS, OF' BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
Letters .Patent No. 80,991, dated August 11, 1868.
IMPROVED TAILORS SEAT.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY 'CONCERNs Be it known thatI, Fnmnnlcn Nnunnus, of Belleville, in the county of St. Clair, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement. in Tailors Seats; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a-full, clear, and exact 'description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which-f Figure 1 represents a side elevation, partly in section, of my improved tailors seat.
Figure 2 is a front elevation, partly insection, of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to certa-in improvements on the tailors seat for'which Letters Patent were granted to me on the second day of-June, 1868.v The present invention consists, rst, in providing the hinged back-support of a tailors seat with an adjustable elastic gauge, by which its degree of inclination can be regulated. This gauge consists of-a'screw and spring, so applied that theaforesaid'resnlt will be obtained.
The invention consists, second, in so connecting the leg-support with thc bar that holds it, that the said leg-support may be elastic, and also up-and-down adjustable.
The invention, nally, consists in bending the bar that slides on the seat and that supportsthe leg-support, so as to bring the leg-support opposite the middle of the seat. Y
- A, inthe drawing, represents the seat, made of suitable material, and of suitable shape, substantially in the manner'indicated in the aforesaid Letters Patent. i
B is the back-support, hinged tothe seat, so that it can be folded down, or set to-any desired-degree of inclination. y
On one side o'fx'the seat'is formed the eye a,-to receive the sliding bar C, as is also fully described in the aforesaid Letters Patent. i i
' Thebar C is bent. so as to bring its vertical socket or eye c nearly opposite the middle of the seat, and not quite so near to one side of thesame as in my former patent. l i .l
D is the rod, which has the horizontal socket or eye e to receive the bar E, on which the narrow cushion F is a'ran-ged. By means of the set-screwf, or its equivalent, the b'ar E can be clamped inthe tube e. The bar D is of prismatic form, and ts into a. pipe, G, with corresponding bore, which pipe works up anddown in the socket c. .Between the upper end of the pipe G and a shoulder or projection of the bar D is a spiral spring, I:`[,'wund around D,as shown. The pipe Gr can be clamped in the tubo c by means of a set-screw, Les shown.
By this combination of theparts C, D, Gr, and-H, the leg-support Fwill always be elastic, and still at the same time be up-and-down adjustable. y Y
The Yrod vDis prsmatic, so that it cannot turn in the pipe G, while it can be turned with the samcwhen the latterY is released by the screw d.,` i Y v Y i By having the bar C curved, to bring the cushion F nearly opposite the middle ofthe seat, the position of the occupant will be more comfortable. I
The rod Vor bar E, I prefer to have round, so that it can turn 1n the socket e around its own axis.
From the rear of the-back-support B projects an arm, g, on whicha nut, is formed or held. A screw, z', is ttedthrogh this nut, and opposite the lower end of this screw is secured upon the seat'a metal-or other step, Z, as is clearly shown in,lig.l1. Y
7' isa spiral or other spring, connecting a projection from'the back, B, with the seat, as shown.
When the person occupying the seat reclines against the back-support B, the spring will be compressed, and will make the back-support elastic, the screw acting asa gauge tc prevent inclination of the back,;B, beyond a certain desired point. y Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-r' 1'. The combination of the leg-cushion F with the bar E, socket e, rod D, pipe G, socket c, and spring H, all made and operating substantially as herein shown and described, for the purpose of making the said cushion at once elastic and adjustable. i
2. The combination of the seat Agand hinged seat-back B with the spring j, arm g, and-gaugerscrew z', all operating substantially as herein shown and described. i i
' FRIEDRICH NEUHAUS.
