ERASER-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 19, 1905. Serial No. 265,885-
Patented Jan. 2, 1906.
1'12 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. HAYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Eraser-Holders; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to eraser-holders.
It has for its object an improved holder adapted to be attached to the end of a leadpencil and the purpose of which is to hold a piece of erasing-rubber thereto by a case that is primarily made in two or more parts and screwed together and as the rubber wears a part of the case may be detached and thrown away, leaving a new exposure of erasive substance.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of the rubber and holder. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the same.
1 indicates anipple with a socket-like opening at the end 2 and with a conical opening contracting toward the end 3. The end 3 is screw threaded externally. Preferably the screw-threads are of a cone-screw character.
4 indicates a conical nipple screw-threaded both internally and externally. Preferably the screw-threads are of a cone-screw character.
5 indicates a second ni ple similar in all red to engage over the nipple 4 as the nip le 4 engages over the terminal 3 of the nipp e 1.
6 indicates the eraser made of rubber trimmed to aconical form adapted to engage through the several threaded parts in their assembled condition and to project beyond the piece 5 for a distance sufficient for proper use.
In use the eraser is worn away, and when it becomes worn away to so great an extent that the guarding-nipple 5 prevents its proper use as an eraser the nipple 5 is unscrewed and thrown away, leaving a freshly-exposed rubber in condition for use, and when this is used the piece 4 may be similarly unscrewed and thrown away, leaving again a freshlyexposed section of the erasing-rubber.
What I claim is 1. In combination with a tubular rubberholder adapted to be secured to the end of a pencil, the terminal of said holder being conically threaded, a plurality of extension-nipples threaded both externally and internally, the first adapted to engage over said terminal and the other over the first, and an erasingrubber projecting through said terminal and nipples, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a rubber-holder provided with an opening therethrough and with an externally-threaded conical terminal at one end thereof, an extension-nipple screwthreaded on both its outer and inner faces and adapted to engage said terminal, and a second nipple similarly threaded, and adapted to engage said extension-nipple, whereby the nipples may be placed in continuous order, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I sign this specificationjn the presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK W. HAYES.
