Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAUL HOFFMANN, electrician, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at 92 Kantstrasse, Charlottenburg-Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Induction-Coils; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to an electric apparatus which, owing to its peculiar combination, requires so little space that the same may be carried comfortably in a coat-pocket. It is thus possible to use the apparatus everywhere and at any time, as the same does not require a special case or boX for carrying it, which is of great importance for those persons who use electricity for curative purposes.
On the accompanying drawing the apparatus is represented in a sectional view.
Two metal cases a and b encompass an insulating-ring c, preferably of vulcanite or ebonite. l/Vhile the case a is Xed by means of screws on the insulating-ring the case can be removed from the ring and the cases serve on the one side as handles for electrifying and on the other side when united as a case for the whole apparatus. In the case a, which is closed on one side, is placed the cell d, while in the case Z) the coil or the secondary and primary windings im' are placed, in the center of which there is placed the core c, which serves at the same time for increasing and diminishing the induction-current. The leads connected on the one side through the cell d and the zinc case c to the coil 71, a', and on the other side through the contact-spring o, the metal disk a and cases a and may be over one meter long, as the hollow space between the insulating-disks m and m2 is suflciently large to receive them. In this way it is made easy to handle the apparatus. To the cases a the secondary wires are only united at o g.
The apparatus may be used, as shown in the drawing, with the handle united or also separated and the same is actuated by the push g.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is
1. A pocket electric apparatus comprising a casing formed in two parts detachably connected with each other, each part lof the casing carrying portions of an electrical apparatus and wires connecting the said portions together so that the apparatus may be used with the parts of the casing together or apart, substantially as described.
2. A pocket electric apparatus comprising two metal cases, an insulating-ring secured in the mouth of one of said cases and being adapted to removably fit in the mouth of the other case, each of said cases carrying parts of an electrical apparatus, and wires connecting said parts together so that the apparatus may be used with the cases together or separated, substantially as described.
