Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 21, 1905. Serial No. 266,200.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, COLIN CAMPBELL CALDER and ROBERT GEORGE EUsTAoE, subjects of the King of Great Britain, residing at London, England, have invented an Improved Necktie or the Like Clip or Fastener, of which the followin is a specification.
This invention re ates to an improved necktie or like clip or fastener, and has for its object to provide a cheap and efficient clip or fastener that will hold a necktie firmly to a hslrhirt-front without injury to the tie or the s t.
The said invention provides a clip or fastener that will lie substantially flat and not press uncomfortably against the chest nor cause the wearers outer clothing to bulge in an ungainly manner, such as usually accompanics the wearing ofthe clips or fasteners eretofore in use.
The improved clip or fastener is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view, and Fig. 2 is a side view, thereof.
The improved clip is made of metallic wire or other suitable material possessing sufii-- cient strength and resiliency. A piece of such wire of the required length is bent into two loops a a, as shown in the drawings; The wire on both sides of the looped ortion is thenbent downward and inward unt' the ends or limbs b 1) cross at an angle of aboutfortyfive degrees, the loops and limbs bein arranged to lie substantially in the same p ane.
The material is initially strained, so that these limbs bear against each other with an appreciable force.
The limbs b b at the parts 0 0 beyond the crossing are oppositely curved to form arcs the planes of which are at right an les, or
thereabout, to the mean plane of the c ip as a whole, as shown in the drawings. Said parts 0 0 cross each other at d. The bending of the ends in this manner provides jaws or inclines facilitating the insertion of the tie and shirtfront between the limbs of the clip and insuring a more secure grip of the clip or fastener upon such materials as may be inserted therein.
What we claim is .A fastener or clip consisting of a piece of wire bent to form'a looped portion, limbs ex-
