RADIAL CAR PULLER. 'SHEAVR APPLICATION FILED JAN. 12, 1905.

vention. Fig. 2 is aside elevation ofthe j. UNITED STATES To all whom it may concern:-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK I. FRIED- LINE, of Little lRock, Pulaski county, Arkansas, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Radial Car-Puller Sheaves, of'
which the following is a speciiication.
The object of this invention is toprovide an apparatus by means'of which power can be applied to draw aload or obj ect from any direction to acertain Xed point, the ldevice being generally used and particularly adapt-4 ed for moving cars or loads from dierent directions to set them in a certain desired posi-l tion for loading or unloading.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described, and particularly pointedIout liln the claims. d f n t e accompanyin rawings, orming part of this speciiicatiofgi, Figure 1 is a plan view of a radial car-puller embodyingmy insame. Fi .'3 is an end view looking toward the edge o the sheaves.. Fig. 4 is a vertical section showing the manner of mounting the oscillatin sheave on its support.
I-n the rawings,. 2 represents a plate of any suitable material, preferably metal, that forms the base or support for the sheavehousings.
3- is a lixed housing rigidly secured to the 4 under side of the plate 2 and carrying a sheave 4. i
5 is the housing for the upper sheave 6, that corresponds to the lower one and is mounted on the upper side of the plate 2 at the opposite end. A hole 7 is provided in the plate to receive a stud 8, having a flange 9 at its lower end and a central hole or opening 10; A vcollar 1 1 is provided on the housin 5 and adapted to iit over the up erend of t e stud`8 and be securely fixed t ereto by means of setscrews 12 or the threads, as shown, or both. This construction forms a pivot for the housing of the upper sheave, allowing it to make a complete revolution on the base 2. lI pre-- fer to provide lugs 13 on the housing 5 ,wherein antifriction-rollers '14 are mounted and ada ted to rest and travel upon a iiat curved tractL 15 on the surface o f the base-plate 2. A cable 16 leads from a suitable source of power under the sheave 4 and vertically be- Specification of Letters Patent, Application nea January 12,1905. serial No. 240,696.

tween it and the sheave 6, through the hole 10, and up Over thesheave 6 to the load that when the directionof the load- The device is used with rope or wire cable car-pullers, `the rope or cable leading out in any-direction tothe cars or load. It is usually placed on the ground beside the track with the cable leading out of the elevator or building, through the sheaves, and up or down the track tothe cars.. i I claim as myinvention- 1. The combination, with a base-plate, of
a housing rigidly secured to the vunder side-v u i thereof, a sheave mounted therein, a second housing pivotally supported onA the upper side of said base, a sheave carried by said second housing, and a cable for saidsheaves.-
2. The combination, with a base-plate, of a housing having a suitable sheave secured to one side thereof, a second housing, a hollow stud pivoted in said .base-plate and wherein said'second housing is secured onthe side of said plate o posite from said iirst-named housing, a s eave for said second housing, and a cable for said sheaves.
3. A radialcar-puller comprising a plate, a housing rigidly secured to one side thereof and having a suitable sheave, a hollow stud having 'a flanged lower end loosely fitting volve with said stud and having a suitable sheave, and a cable extending from a suitable source of power and passing under said first-named sheavev and through saidhollow l stud and up over said second sheave to thev load, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with a base-plate, of sheaves mounted on the Iup er and under sides' thereof, and one of saidp sheaves being swiveled, substantially as described Inwitness whereof I have hereunto set lmy hand. FREDERICK I. FRIEDLINE.
