Description

UNITEDsTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
FEED ANDEEsoN, oE WARREN, PENNSYLVANIA.
ATTACHMENT FoR LUBRICATQRS.
No. 806,514.V
l To all whom it may con/Germ' Beit known that LFRED ANDERSON, of Warren, in the county of Warren and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Attachments-for Lubricator's, l
of which the following is aspecifcation.
My invention'relates to an improvement in attachments for lubricators or oil-cups-for supplying lubricantto machinery, and particularly to the interior of the cylinders of gas and steam engines or other places where the lubricating liquid is subject to the pressure of the iiuidemployed in operating the engine..` p
- I .will now describe my inventionso that others skilled in the artmay .manufacture and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,'forming part 'of this i Figure 1 shows in section my improvement of a gas-engine. Fig. 2 is a'crosssection on the line II II of Fig. v1.
Like symbols of reference indicate like parts in each view. .A
In the drawings, 2 represents the oil-reservoir of the oil-cup. 3 is an orifice leading.; therefrom and communicating with the oil-14 discharge opening 4, controlled by the valve 5.
6 is the sight-tube chamber, provided at its lower end with an extension 7,-screwing into the coupling 8. Connected to the lower extremity of the coupling 8 is a sleeve 9, having a central oil-duct l() therethrough; At the bottoni of the sleeve 9 is an extension or shoulder 11. Extending through the oil-duct 10 is a wire or'rod 12, having a hooked upper end for holding the same in place. Con nected to the lower'end ofthe rod or wire 12 is a cup 13, which extends underand sur-V rounds the extension or shoulder 11.
that it may bescrewed into the side of the cylinder (represented at 14) or other place- Specification of Letters Patent. Application led'Augnst 26, 1905. Serial No. 275,947.
"Ihe sleeve 9 is screw-threaded at itsy lower end,'so,
gases in the case of anv explosive-engine or the steam in "a steam-engine gain access to the spaceV 15 in the cylinder-wall surrounding the cup 13, the immediate eect is to. force the cup against 'the shoulder 11 and cut off.
entirely all communication with the oil-sup-v ply above said cup. This prevents access of theexplosive orexploded gases to the oil passages and reservoir and obviates all danger of the oil being spattered by the gasesl against the sides of the sight-tube and interfering withV` the inspection of the oil-supply by the engineer. It also at the same time prevents blowing of the gases into the oilreservoir '2, which is a frequent cause of leakage in thesame.
The advantages of my invention will be ap- .preciated by those skilled in the art. It is extremely simple and inexpensive and may beapplied to any ordinary form of oil-cup. I claim-'y c y l. An attachment for lubricators adapted .for connection to the lubricator and'tothe jpart to be lubricated, and having an oil-passage therethrough, and a cup at the bottom =of said passage and loosely connected to said attachment.
Patented Dec. 5, 1905. l
9. An attachmentfor lubricators adapted forconnection to the lubricator and to the part to be lubricated, and havingan oil-passage therethrough, there being a shoulder extending from the lower end of said attachment, a cup surrounding said shoulder, and
a rod connected to said cup and' extending Yinto said passage. An attachment for lubricators adapted for connection to the lubricatorl and to the part to be lubricated, and having an oil-*passage therethrough, there being a shoulder extending from the lower end 4of said attachment, acupsurrounding said shoulder, and
a rod connected to said cup and extending through said passage and having a hook at its upper. end by which the rod is suspended in saidrpassage.
, 4. In combination, a lubricator having `a screw-threaded lower end, `a coupling having its upper end internally screw-threaded for attachment to said screw-threaded lower 4end of the 'lubricator and having alsoan internallyfscrewthreaded lower end, a sleeve with its upper end screwing into said coupling and its lower end screw-threaded for attachment to a cylinder, said sleeve having a shoulder In testimony whereof I have hereunto set extending from the lower end thereof, a cup my hand.
surrounding said shoulder, and a rod conr i 1 i T neoted to said cup and extending through an FRED Ah DLhbOl\' 5 oil-passage in said sleeve and having a hook Witnesses:
at its upper end by which the rod is loosely EDGAR THOMAS,
