Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1905.
Application filedJanuary 23, 1905. Serial No. 242,268-
. To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY GEORGE WEBER,
a citizen of the United States, residing at.
Knoxville, in the county of Marion. and State 5 of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Form for Plasters, of which the following is a specification. I i
The objects of my invention are to provide a form for plasters which is adapted to be applied to the body of an individual in such a way that the parts of it will extend along the spine and over the exterior of the body which is outside of the kidneys and to provide a form of this class which is flexible in certain portions and adapted to permit the .free movement of the body without the loosening of the plaster from the back and at alltimes to cover the portions of the body which it is desirable to reach in treating the spine and kidneys by the application of the plaster and to reach these parts only in its application upon the back, and, further, to provide a form of plaster which is designed to have an adhesive material upon one side of it to secure the plasterto the body.
My invention consists in certain details in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of the device where by the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a detail view of the plaster, showing the shape of it and the construction; and Fig. 2 shows a portion of the body of an individual with the plaster applied as it is commonly used.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, I have used the reference-numeral to indicate the spinal portion of the plaster, which is made comparatively thin and flexible at the point 11, where it is broadened out into 'two laterally-extending kidney portions 12 and 13, which are madecomparatively thin and flexible at 14 and 15, respectively, to allow any slight movement of the body from either a twisting motion or from a lateral swinging motion without the loosening of the plaster in any way from the back of the patient.
In the application of this plaster, by having the spine portion 10 of it made of compara- 5 tively heavy material and by having it somewhat flexible at'll and having the kidney portions 12 and 13 of somewhat thick materials and somewhat flexible at Hand 15,the free plication to the part of the body adjacent to 6 the kidneys and to the spine with a single plaster which is adapted for such application.
In placing the plaster upon the patient the spinal portion 10 of the plaster is placed upon the back first and the kidney portion 12 is folded against the back, and then the kidney portion 13 is similarly folded on the opposite side, and a plaster when it is thus placed upon the back lies smoothly and does not affect the movement of the body.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States therefor, is n An adhesive plaster formed of a single piece of material, and comprising a spinal portion, I
kidney. portions extending laterally in opposite directions from the lower end of the spinal portion, and a comparatively thin and flexible portion interposed between and joining the adjacent parts of the spinal portion 5- and kidney portions.
