Description

No. 804,874. PATENTED NOV. 21, 1905. J. W. NASSAUER.
HYPODERMIG SYRINGE.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 1,1903.
vwcwtoz I g wiifmfoznmg UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH W. NASSAUER, OF RICHMOND HILL, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES J. TAGLIABUE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
HYPODERMIC SYRINGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21, 1905.
Application filed June 1, 1903. Serial No. 159,509.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH W. NASSAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond Hill, county of Queens, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hypodermic Syringes and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
of a washer or other packing.
My invention is designed to dispense with the washer and at the same time to producea more efficiently operating tight joint.
In the accompanying drawing, illustrating one .form of my invention, (0 represents the plunger of the syringe working in the usual barrel or cylinder 6, shown herein as threaded at both ends, thev rear end for the reception of a cap 0 for packing the plunger-rod d and at the other end for the reception of a head f, carrying the needle 9. The rear face 9 of the head f is suitably groovedas, for instance, with acircumferential groove h, adapted to receive the tapered sharpened front end?) of the barrel 6. The rear face of the needlehead may be similarly grooved, as at and the front end of the nipple is of the head f may be similarly provided with a sharpened front end Z, adapted to the groove 7'. As the form of joint shown may be variously modified or even reversed, I shall hereinafter refer to this joint as a tongued groove-joint, meaning thereby a joint which is formed by one or more edges or tongues entering one or more grooves or recesses without regard to the. formation of continuity on either the tongue or groove. It will be obvious that such tongue-and-groove joint will very efficiently seal the device and can be readily cleaned.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In a syringe, the combination of a barrel having a reduced or sharpened end, a head screw-threaded to the barrel and having an annular groove into which the end of the barrel is adapted to fit, the said head being freely removable from the barrel, substantially as described.
2. In asyringe, the combination of a barrel having a sharpened front edge, a head screwthreaded upon the outside of the barrel and having an annular groove therein, the said head being freely removable from the barrel, substantially as described.
3. In asyringe, the combination of a barrel having a sharpened front edge, a head screwthreaded upon the outside of the barrel and having an annular groove therein for the reception of the sharpened front edge of the barrel and a needle screw-threaded upon the said head and having an annular groove, the said head being provided with a sharpened front edge adapted to enter the annular groove in the socket of the needle.
JOSEPH W. NASSAUER.
