THREAD-GUIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 7, 1905.
Application filed March 22, 1905. Serial No. 251.443.
T0 at whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, XAVER BOSSART, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing in Paterson, county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread-Guides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention is an im rovement in threadguiding means for teXt' e machinery; and it has for its object to provide, in combination with a rod, a member slidable thereon longitudinally thereof and comprising a threadguide, such arrangement permitting movement of the thread-guide laterally with reference to the thread-feed line for adjustment or for temporary removal from its normal position, so as to afford access to other parts of the particular machine in which the device is used.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is aview of the device partly in section and partly in elevation. Fig. 2 is a similar view except that a different form of the thread-guide proper is illustrated. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line a: :10 in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 illustrates a certain spring, and Fig. 5 illustrates a slight modification.
In said drawings, a is a rod formed with a longitudinal groove 1). The thread guide member comprises a mounting, in the adaptation shown being a sleeve 0, arranged-on said rod in such manner that while it may be moved laterally such movement will not result from vibration or other unintentional causes and the thread-guide proper, cl.
The thread-guide proper may be of any desired form, two different forms being shown It has a bore or bores e, into which snugly fits a stem or stems f, which is or are riveted into the sleeve 0, or, as shown inFig. 5, a strip of the metal of the sleeve is cut out and turned off at right angles to form a stem g. The sleeve is formed with an ori- 1 fice h, which receives a rebend '5, formed in a slightly-curved wire spring 3', Fig. 4. The body of {this spring is arranged in groove 1) and by bearing on the bottom of the same prevents the movement of the sleeve, except suflicient force be applied thereto for that purpose. At the same time by virtue of its engagement with the groove the spring prevents the sleeve from turning on the rod.
I do not wish to be limited to the precise I(gonstruction herein shown and described;
What I wish to claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a rod, a threadguide member comprising the threaduide proper and a mounting therefor slidab e on said rod, and a spring movable with and inclosed in the mounting and engaging said rod, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a longitudinallygrooved rod, a thread-guide member comprising the thread-guide proper and a mounting therefor slidable longitudinally on said rod,'and a spring movable with and inclosed in the mounting and engaging said rod in the groove thereof, substantially as described.
3. The combination of a longitudinallygrooved rod, a thread-guide member comprising the threaduide proper and a mounting therefor'slidable longitudinally on said rod, and a spring inclosed in and movable with said mounting and engageable with said rod in the groove. thereof, substantially as described.
4. The combination of a rod, a threadguide member comprising the thread-guide proper and a mounting therefor slidable longitudinally on said rod, and a curved spring interlocked with said mounting and inclosed therein and having its ends engaging in said groove, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 13th day of March, 1905.
XAVER BOSSART.
