Description

No 802,788. PATENTED OCT. 24, 1905. 0'. E. WEIDNER.
CALGIMINING TOOL.
APPLICATION FILED JAN.9.1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 24, 1905.
Application filed January 9, 1905- Serial No. 240,358.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES E. WEIDNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improve ment in Calcimining-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a tool designed to clean walls, and especially to be used in cleaning old calcimine from the walls preparatory to applying a new coat.
The object of the invention is to provide means for scraping the old calcimine off the walls and for catching the matter so scraped off so that it will not lodge on the floor.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device. Fig. 2 is a cross-section thereof.
Referring specifically to the drawings, an elongated receptacle to catch the matter scraped ofi' consists of a curved bottom 6, a flat top 7, and ends 8. The top 7 has at the front edge a slit 9, extending lengthwise along the receptacle. Adjacent this slit the metal of the bottom is folded over upon itself, as indicated at 10, forming a groove to receive a rubber strip 11, secured in place by screws 12. This rubber strip extends along the slit at the front lip or edge of the tool.
13 indicates a socket for the handle. In use the old calcimine is first wetted down to soften it. The tool is then drawn across the wall and the rubber strip scrapes the matter therefrom, which flows or falls down the strip and through the opening 9 in the receptacle. Any matter which falls on the top 7, as in working over a ceiling, may be slid down into the slot 9 by tilting the device as it is lowered. This prevents the dirt and old stufl' from being scattered around on the floor to the injury of the carpets or furniture in the room.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-- A tool of the kind stated, comprising an elongated sheet-metal receptacle flattened on top and having a slot extending along one edge of the top, the metal of the body of the receptacle being folded upon itself to form a groove extending along the outer edge of said slot, and an elastic strip seamed in said groove, and projecting outwardly from the slot.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES E. WEIDNER.
