Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 3, 1905.
Application filed April 7, 1905. Serial No. 25 1,395-
To (all "whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAooB KoEnLnR, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, borough of Queens, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filtering-Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved filtering-faucet which is intended for use with ordinary service-pipes for removing the mechanical impurities contained in the water, the faucet being readily opened or closed, so as to facilitate the discharge of the filtered water and permitting also the ready cleaning of the straining or filtering device from time to time; and with these and other ends in view the invention consists in a filtering-faucet embodying the novel features and combinations of parts to be hereinafter described, and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrative of one embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved filteringfaucet. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the same; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section through the filtering-faucet on line 3 3, Fig. 2, drawn on a larger scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, a a are the two members of which the casing of my improved filtering-faucet is composed, the rear member or portion (6 being screwed onto the servicepipe, while the front member a is provided at its rear end with a threaded portion which screws into the interiorly-threaded end of the member a until the same abuts against the In the rear member a is arranged a filtering-cup I), which is in communication with the service-pipe at its open rear end and which is provided at the side and front wall with small perforations, the filtering-cup being provided with an outwardly-bent ring r at its rear end by which it is retained in position by the ring-shaped rear plate or washer :12 of a retaining-frame (Z. The frame (Z is provided at its front end with a disk-shaped strainer cl, the ring-shaped rear plate being connected with the strainer-plate by longitudinally-extending side arms (Z The cup-shaped strainer b and the strainer-plate d, with its supporting-frame, are retained firmly in position in the rear portion a by an elastic gasket 6, interposed between the interior shoulder (t of the front portion a and said strainer plate or disk, as shown clearly in Fig. 2.
The member a is provided with an interior valve-seat f and a nozzle a at the lower part, which communicates with the bore a of the front portion. Against the seat f, at the interior of the member a, fits a valve f, which is applied to the end of a valve-stem f guided by ribs f in the front member a, the valvestem extending through the front end of the front portion a to the exterior thereof and being preferably provided with a hand-wheel f at its outer end. The valve can be moved forward or backward, so as to clear the valveseat or to fit tightly on the same in order to close the faucet and prevent the discharge of water. As shown, the valve-stemf is threaded through the front end of the member a, so that a few turns of the hand-wheel are sufficient for opening or closing the valve f.
The straining-disk arranged at the interior of the rear member of the faucet serves for the purpose of retaining the mechanical impurities contained in the water. As it is necessary to clean the straining device from time to time the front member is screwed off from the rear member, so that access is given to the straining device, which can then be removed and cleaned, likewise the valve and its stem, by forcing water through the same in a direction opposite to the direction in which the water passes when discharged from the faucet. After the straining devices are cleaned they are replaced in position in the rear member of the faucet, after which the front member is screwed on again, so as to firmly position the same.
My improved faucet can be readily screwed onto the service-pipe in the kitchen or other place where filtered water is required. The faucet can be supplied at a comparatively small cost and forms a useful device for supplying filtered water for drinking, cooking, and other purposes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent" 1. Afiltering-faucet comprisingarearmemher, a straining-cup in said member having an open rear end, a strainer-disk, means for supporting said cup and disk, and a front member attached to said rear member and positioning said supporting means.
2. In a filtering-faucet, the combination of a member for attachment to the service-pipe, a straining-cup in said member having an open rear end, a strainer-disk, a frame supporting said cup and disk, and a valved member attached to said first-named member and positioning said frame therein.
3. The combination, with a service-pipe and a faucet member attached thereto, of a straining-cup having its open rear end in communication with said pipe, a frame supporting said cup and carrying a strainer-disk disposed in front of the same, and a second faucet member attached to said first-named member and positioning said frame therein.
4:. In a faucet, a filtering device comprising a straining-cup, a Washer surrounding said cup adjacent the open end thereof, arms carried by said washer, and a strainer-disk carried by said arms.
5. In a filtering-faucet, a filtering device comprisinga straining-cup, a washer or plate supporting said cup at its open end,a strainerdisk adjacent the opposite end of said cup, and supporting-arms for said disk extending from said washer or plate.
6. In a faucet, a filtering device comprising 7. In a filtering-faucet, in combination, a
service-pipe, a rear portion connected thereto and provided with an interior straining-cup, a strainer-disk adjacent the latter, a frame for holding the straining-cup and disk in position, and a front portion screwed into the rear portion and provided With a valve and valve-seat.
8. A filtering-faucet comprising front and rear members, an interior straining-cup, a strainer-disk adjacent the latter, and a frame supporting said cup and disk and positioned between said members.
9. In a filtering-faucet, the combination of a member for attachment to the service-pipe, a straining-cup in said member, a washer supporting said cup, arms extending from said washer toward the front of said member, a straining-disk carried by said arms, and a valved member attached to said first-named member adjacent said disk.
In testimony that 1 claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
