N0- 799,957. PATENTED SBPTFIQ, 1905- F. M. WINN.
HANGER FOR GABLE HEADS.
APPLICATION rum NOV. 2, 1904.
W/TIVESSES: INVENTOR 23111727521? m nn ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK MADISON WINN, OF DES MOINES, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO LOUIS F. DOELLINGER, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
HANGER FOR CABLE-HEADS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1905.
Application filed November 2, 1904. Serial No. 231,106.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK MADISON WINN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Hanger for Cable-Heads, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to hangers, and is particularly adapted for use in connection with the heads or portions of aerial conductingcables which are made into distributing-boxes and the like. Its principal objects are to provide a simple and secure support for the head.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pole upon which a cable is mounted by one embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the hanger, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof.
To the pole A is shown attached a strand B, upon which is hung a cable O. The head or enlargement D of the cable extends into a box E, suitably fastened to the pole, said head being connected by a bent and vertical portionF of the cable. To support this head, I attach my improved hanger H to the pole below the box. This, as here illustrated, consists of opposite side bars conveniently formed of wrought-iron strips having parallel portions 10, through openings in which extends a securing-bolt 11. From these parallel portions the bars at one end diverge outwardly at 12 and are fixed to each side of the post by lagscrews 13 or the like. The opposite or outer ends of the bars are curved at 14 to embrace the cable, the distance between them being tween the portions 10 of the bars extends the end of a stay 15, preferably of material similar to the side bars and having an opening to receive the bolt. The opposite end of this stay is twisted at right angles to the remainder and also bent so that it furnishes a portion 16, which may be secured to the post by a lag-screw 17 and brace the hanger by taking the downward thrust of the weight upon it.
In use the bars may be secured at each side of the pole at a suitable distance below the cable-head and the vertical portion F thereof introduced between the curved ends. The stay is then brought into coaction with the pole and fastened to it and the bolt finally tightened to draw the ends of the bars into coaction with the cable and thus support it.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A hanger for cable-heads comprising side bars having parallel portions, at one side of which the bars diverge and being at the opposite side bent to embrace the cable, a bolt engaging theparallel portions, and a stay connected with the bolt.
2. A hanger for cable-heads comprising a pair of parallel side bars, having ends diverging from each other, and the opposite ends also diverging from each other and bent to form semicircles for embracing the cablehead, a stay having its ends twisted at right angles to the body portion and having one of its ends arranged between the parallel side bars, and a bolt traversing a'lined openings in the side bars, and stay for securing the parts together.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' FRANK MADISON VVINN.
