Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1905.
Application filed November 17,1904. Serial No. 233,069.
To all 1071:0111, it perry concern.-
.Be it known that 1, MAX Sciiunua'r, a citizen of the German Empire, and a resident of Uottbus, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Herman y, have invented certain new and useful Improvcments in Controlling Devices for Rolls of Ribbon, of which the following is a specilication.
The subject of this invention is a ribbonroll with a controlling device. The roll is composed of the weaved tissue and a paper strip rolled between the same, which on the one hand serves as a measuring-strip and on the other as a control against illicit winding oli. For this purpose the paper strips project a little over one or both borders of the ribbon and are there united by a paste or by being pasted over with paper or by thread being drawn through or in any other suitable way which will show how far the paper strip has been wound off. In order to discover at once an illicit unfastcning of the paper, this paper is pasted together, and the borders of the whole paper may be of a color which will change on being moistened, so that at a subsequent refastening of the same for the purpose of deception (which is only possible by moistening the paper) the color of the paper will be partly changed. The paper strip is preferably perforated close to the pasted border in a manner that on being Wound ofl it is torn off along the perforated line.
The accompanying drawings show a form of construction of the ribbon roll with controlling device.
Fignre 1 is a side view of a ribbon-roll with my device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a central cross-section of the roll shown in Fig. 1.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout both views.
in this case the border of the strip of paper is pasted together only on one side of the roll. Fig. 1 shows a roll with ribbon a and the paper strip 0 perforated along the line A B and providedwith a measure. Fig. 2 shows in a diametral cross-section the layers of ribbon a, the layers of paper a a little broader than the latter, and the border (Z of the same over which paper has been pasted.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination of a roll of ribbon, at strip of paper inserted between the several windings of the same, said paper projecting edgewise beyond the edge of the ribbon and means fz'istening together along their projecting edges adjacent windings of the paper, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of a roll of ribbon, a strip of paper inserted between the several windings of the same, said paper projecting edgewise beyond the edge of the ribbon, and the projecting edges of the adjacent windings of the paper being fastened together by means of paste, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination of a roll of ribbon, a strip of paper inserted between the several windings of the same said paper projecting edgewise beyond the edge of the ribbon, and means for fastening together along their projecting edges adjacent wimlings of the paper the projecting edge of the paper being provided with a row of perforations, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
a. The combination of a roll of ribbon a strip of paper inserted between the several windings of the same, said paper projecting edgewise beyond the edge of the ribbon, the projecting edges of the adjacent windings of the paper being fastened together by means of paste, and being of a color adapted to change on being moistened, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two sul scribing witnesses.
