Description

PATENTED AUG. 8, 1905.
I No. 796,832.
J. A. FERGUSON. WALL.
UNITED STATES JOHN ALBERT FERGUSON,
OF DENVER, COLORADO.
WALL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 8, 1905.
Application filed February 8, 1905- Serial No. 244,781.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, JOHN ALBERT FER- GUSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Walls, (Case 0,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to walls for buildings, and more particularly to a class of Walls adapted for partition construction.
The objects of my invention are to provide a wall securely bonded and one which can be constructed in a substantial manner, leaving oply a narrow space between the faces there- 0 I i The above objects are attained by constructing the blocks with one long web, which is adapted to extend through to the face of the wall opposite to the face formed by the body portion of the blocks.
The objects of my invention are more fully comprehended by the drawings forming a part of this application, in which correspond ing parts in all of the figures are represented by the same letters, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a block used in constructing a wall as herein described. Fig. 2 is a modified form of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a section of wall constructed of blocks as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of a course of blocks laid in the wall.
Let A represent the body portion of the block shown in Fig. 1. This block has webs a at the ends thereof and intermediate webs a and (L The web a is of much greater length than the web a B represents the body portion of another form of blocks, having intermediate Webs b and b the web I) being of greater length than the web 6 It will be observed that the long intermediate webs of the blocks extend through the courses of blocks forming the side of the wall opposite to the side formed by the body portion of the blocks from which said long webs extend, as illustrated in the drawings, so that the ends of the webs a and b will show on the faces of the wall. This construction provides means for building a wall with a narrow space between the courses forming the faces thereof and still provides facilities for obtaining an effective bonding by means of the long webs disposed in opposite directions and extending through the courses to the faces of the wall, as aforesaid.
The short webs a provided on the block illustrated in Fig. 1 may in some instances be of utility in providing additional bonding facilities. I do not restrict myself to that con struction, as the block shown in Fig. 2 may prove more practical.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A wall composed of a plurality of blocks each comprising a body portion having intermediate parallel webs extending from one side only thereof, one of said webs being of greater length than the other, said blocks adapted to be laid with the long webs extending between the ends of the opposite or mating blocks in the horizontal rows to the faces of the wall on the opposite side, substantially as specified.
2. A wall composed of a plurality of blocks each comprising a body portion having terminal webs extending from one side of said body portion and intermediate webs extend-- ing at right angles from the same side of the body portion from which the terminal webs extend, one of said intermediate webs being of greater length than the other, said blocks being laid side by side and arranged in superposed courses, the said web's being oppositely disposed in the same horizontal courses, the long webs adapted to extend through to the faces of the wall and the ends of the short webs adapted to abut each other centrally, substantially as specified.
3. A wall composed of a plurality of blocks each comprising a body portion'having intermediate parallel webs extending at right angles from one side'thereof, one of said webs being of greater length than the other, said blocks being laid side by side and arranged in superposed courses with the Webs oppositely disposed, the long webs adapted to extend through the courses of blocks to the faces of the wall, the ends of the short webs adapted to abut each other centrally between the faces of the wall, substantially as specified.
4. A wall composed of a plurality of blocks each comprising a body portion having terminal webs extending from one side of said body portion and intermediate webs extending at right angles from the same side of the bodyportion from which the terminal webs extend, one of said intermediate webs being of greater length than the other, the said webs being oppositely disposed in the same horizontal courses, the long webs extending through to the faces of the Wall and the ends of the short intermediate Webs adapted to abut each other centrally, the terminal Webs adapted to extend a'lon the sides of the long intermediate Webs producing a more effective bonding therefor, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
