HENRY L. FERRIS, OF HARVARD, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO HUNT, HELM, FERRIS & COMPANY, OF HARVARD, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
FORK-PULLEY FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1, 1905.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY L. FERRIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Harvard, in the county of McHenry and -which shall have certain advantages which will appear more fully and at large in the course of this specification.
To this end my invention consists in certain novel features which are shown in the accompanying drawings as embodied in my preferred form of construction.
In the aforesaid drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a hay-fork provided with my improved fork-pulley frame. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the fork-pulley hook and a fragment of the pulley-frame. Fig.3 is'a section in the line 3 8 of Fig. 4:. Fig. 4: is aside elevation of the fork-pulley hook removed from place, showing the hook open; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one of the members of the hook. I
Referring to the drawings, A is the pulleyframe, the same carrying a pulley a, over which a rope can be passed to raise and lower the device. This frame A has two downwardly-extending ears A, which embrace two upwardly-projecting ears I) of a yoke B. A pin a is passed through the ears on the pulley-frame and the ears of the yoke. The yoke B is provided with a central perforation through which projects a vertical pin 0, having a head a, the, said pin being cast integral with one member O of the fork-pulley hook. This member C has an upper centrally-perforated horizontal cylindrical portion 0, reduced at 0 to form a shoulder 0 and downwardly from one end of this cylindrical portion extends a hook proper, 0 D indicates the other member of my hook, the same being provided with an upper cylindrical portion centrally perforatedat d to be passed over the reduced portion 0 of the member O, and downwardly from this cylindrical portion extends a hook proper, D, which laps over the hook proper, 0 so that the two together form an inclosed ring, to which access may be had by swinging the member D to the position shown in Fig. 4. A pin E, having a washer e beneath its head, is passed through a perforation in the cylindrical portion 0 in the member C to hold the parts pivotally together.
F indicates a hay-fork of the ordinary form which can be hooked into the hook, as illustrated, and when so held in place cannot be accidentally dislodged and yet is permitted to swing freely in any direction and also to be rotated on the joint between the yoke B and the member G.
I realize that considerable variations are possible in the details of this construction without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I do not, therefore, intend to limit myself to the specific form herein shown and described.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a device of the class described, the combinationwith the fork-pulley frame of a hay-carrier, of two hook members lapping each other and mutually rotatable at right angles to their plane, and a swivel connection between the hook members and the fork-pulley frame.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination with the fork-pulley frame of a hay-carrier, of a yoke pivoted thereto to swing in a vertical plane, two hooks lapping each other to form an inclosed ring, and relatively rotatable at right angles to their plane, and a swivel-joint between the yoke and the hooks.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination with the fork-pulleyframe of a hay-carrier, of a hooked member having a cylindrical portion secured to said fork-pulley frame, a second hook member lapping the first and rotatable with respect thereto at right angles to its plane, said second member being pivoted on a reduced portion of the cylindrical portion of said first hook member, and
a pin passed into said cylindrical portion and securing said second hook member in place.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination with the fork-pulley frame of a hay-carrier, of a yoke pivoted thereto to swing in a vertical plane, a hook member having a horizontal cylindrical portion, a pin on the cylindrical portion swiveled in said yoke, a reduced end on said cylindrical portion, a second hook member pivoted on said reduced end and lapping the first member to form therewith an inclosed ring, and a pin passed into the cylindrical portion of said first member and having a head arranged to hold the second member in place.
In witness whereof I have signed the above application for Letters Patent, at Harvard, in
the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, this 31st day of January, A. D. 1905.
HENRY L. FERRIS.
