SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,364, dated July 11, 1905.

Be it known that I, EARL R. Lnsnnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids. in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ilows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in gang-plows; and its objects are, first, to provide for raising and lowering each plow in a gang independent of the others, and, second, to provide for tilting each plow independent of the others. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan of the plow-frame. 2 is a side elevation of the same. 3 is a side view of onev portion of the frame cut off on the line y y of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the plow-frame. Fig. 5 is a sectional elevation of the body of the frame on the line .2 2 of Fig. 1. Figs. 6 and 7 are an elevation and a plan of the adjustable shaft support or box. Fig. 8 is a side View of the pivoted shaft-support. Fig. 9 shows a swivel on the end of the plow-beam. Fig. 10 shows the locking device for the lever that actuates the adjustable shaft-bearing; and Fig. 1] is a perspective of a part of one section of a plow-frame, showing the mechanism for raising, lowering, and tilting the plows.

A represents the longitudinal beams of the frame, and A represents rectangular frame in the front beam of the frame arranged for receiving the end of the plow-beams G and the offset or crank shafts H, which are journaled to the frames A and are offset to form cranks /0, which engage the swiveled bearings composed of the parts 0 c at the front end of the plow-beam C and swing with the plow-beam to raise and lower it when the shafts H are made to turn with the lever E to raise and lower the plow.
For raising and lowering the plows I provide short crank-shaft I-I, having offsets it, that pass through or are connected to the plow-beams (J, and I attach to this shaft a lever E, with which the shaft may be turned,

changing the position of the crank from vertical to horizontal, and vice versa, thus raising and lowering the plow-beams U, and with them the plows B and B, each independent of the other, as indicated at B and B in Fig. 2, and for tilting the plows I place a sliding box or shaft support G in a vertical guideway F for the support of one end of the shaft and pivot a' lever D to the beam A of the frame, as at (Z, so that the right-angled arm D of this lever will pass through the longitudinally-sliding box Gr in the box Gr, so that by throwing the lever over or back, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 3, the box G, and with it the end of the shaft, will be raised or lowered, and the opposite end of the shaftbeing supported in a box F, that is pivoted into the supports f, as at f, the plow will be thereby lifted up and tilted to one side, as indicated by the dotted lines of the plow B in Fig. 4, which indicates the plow both raised up by the use of the lever E and tilted over to one side by the use of the lever D. This completes the description of my invention as attached to agang-plow. I will now proceed to describe the manipulation of the plow.
The frame A A is supported upon three wheels I, I, and I", the two latter being pivoted to the frame at i 71 and provided, respectively, with levers J and J, which are connected by means of the wire J so that the manipulation of the lever will throw these wheels off of a direct line, as indicated by the dotted lines, to turn the frame and plows in the direction desired, the wheel I acting as a pivot upon which they turn. The lever j may be manipulated by hand from the seat K, if desired; but it is usually thrown over to the position indicated by its dotted lines in Fig. 2, where it lies between two of the horses or whatever may be drawing the plow and is thrown from side to side for turning the plow as the horses turn one way or the other.
L L, Fig. 1, represent adjusting-springs attached to the plow-beams O and to the seatsupports K in common use, and a represents the clevis, to which the whifiietrees and eveners are attached for the purpose of attaching the horses to the plow.
For the purpose of adjusting each plow independent of the others it is necessary to place partitions in the frame, as shown at A in Fig. 1, to form a division and supporting beam for each plow.
g represents antifriction-rollers journaled to the end of the vertically-adjustable frame G, and g represent gudgeons or arms projecting from each side of the box G and extending through the slots 9 in the box Gr, so
that the box G may slide therein when adjusting the box Gr vertically.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. In combination with a gang of plows, plow beams and frame, the frame partitioned to form a division for each plow a shaft-bearing pivoted to the frame at one side of each division, guides secured to the beams at the other side of each division, a vertically-adjustable shaft-bearing in said guides, shafts revolubly supported at one end in the pivotal bearings and at the other end in the verticallyadjustable bearings each shaft having a crank connected with a plow-beam a manipulatinglever attached to each shaft, a laterally-sliding box in each vertically-adjustable bearing, a manipulating-lever pivoted to the frame and connected to raise and lower said box and bearing, and an adjustable shaft supporting the front end of each plow-beam, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with a gang-p10 w, beams, and frame, partitions in the frame forming a division for each plow, a bearing pivoted to the frame at one side of each division, guides attached to the frame at the other side of each division, a vertically-adjustable bearing having an antifriction-roller attached, working in each guide, a shaft in each division revolubly supported in the bearings and having a crank attachment connected with each plowbeam and manipulating-levers, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
