ANCHOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,869, dated June 20, 1905.

Application filed April 11, 1904. Serial No. 202,677.

I To all whom it may concern;

Be itknown that LJ ONAS EMIL WOLFE, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway, and a resident of Bergen, Norway, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anchors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference-letters refer to like parts, and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal view of my improved anchor. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is an edge view of the shackle end of said anchor.

The object of my invention is to provide an anchor which will be free from liability to entangle with chains or rubbish when in use, there being no holding point or points on the anchor to grip or catch such obstacles; to provide an anchor which is shaped to grip the river or sea bed in whichever position it may fall, which is especially advantageous in muddy and sandy bottoms, and to provide an anchor which will be easily sunk and is without movable parts, such as a hinged palm or hinged mooring mechanism.

Referring to the drawings in detail, A is the head of the anchor, which may be mushroom-shaped or may be a segment of a sphere and is positioned on the lower end of the shank of the anchor.

B is a rectangular stop-plate centrally located on the shank and which is strengthened by the radial ribs 6.

When at the sea-bottom, the mushroom head A will by its weight tend to force the second plate or stock B into the ground, and this will be materially assisted by the weight of the chain on the shackle end of the anchor. If the chain jerks in heavy sea or still, the head A and rectangular stock 'B will take firmer hold.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. An anchor comprising a mushroomshaped head, a shank and a rectangular stock intermediately located on said shank.

2. An anchor comprising a mushroomshaped head, a shank and a reinforced rectangular stock intermediately located on said shank.

3. An anchor comprising a shank, a mushroom-shaped head on said shank, a rectangular stock intermediately located on said shank and radial ribs on said shank reinforcing said stock.

4. An anchor comprising a shank, a head formed of a segment of a sphere and a reinforced stock intermediately located on said shank.

5. An anchor comprising a shank, a head formed of a segment of a sphere, a rectangular stock intermediately located on said shank and radial ribs reinforcing said stock.
