Description

PATENTED MAYZS', 1905 L. J. LONG; w ADVERTISING DOOR CLOSER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 17, 1903.
ADVERT/SING l/w f/wvz Louis J? .lony,
UNITE v STATES Patented May 23, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE."
ADVERTISING DOOR-CLOSER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,696, dated May 23, 1905.
Application filed March 17, 1903. Serial No. 148,264.
To all whont zit/may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS J. LoNe, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of'Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Door-Closers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined doorcloser advertising-sign; and the object of my inilrention is sufliciently indicated by theabove tit e.
My invention consists in the novel arrangement and combination of parts, as described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention applied to the inner side of a door opposite to a transparent panel, the door being closed. Fig. 2 is a view, partly in section and partly in plan, taken on line a b of Fig. 1, disclosing a pulley-supporting bracket. Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the door in open position. Fig.
1 is a spring-actuated roller secured to the door by means of brackets below the transparent panel as indicated in Fig. 1.
With the above description 1 will now proceed to more fully describe my invention by referring to corresponding numerals on the drawings and specification.
Secured to the top of the inner side of the door is a pulley-carrying bracket 1 2, which has a lateral arm supporting a horizontal pulley 3 and an outwardly-projecting arm 2 supporting an upright pulley 4. Secured to the head-casing 5 of the door at 6 is one end of a cord 7, which is brought out around the horizontal pulley 3, thence over the upright pulley 4, and down to a ring 8. To this ring are attached two cords or wires 9, from which is suspended a sign-plate 10, This sign-plate may be constructed of wood, metal, or glass or of glass with a wooden frame. In the drawings it is represented as a metallic plate. Attached to the bottom of the sign-plate are two converging cords or wires 12, connected by a ring 13, from which depends a tape 14.,
the lower portion of which is wound around a spring-actuated roller 15, which is mounted to the door by means of brackets 16 below a transparent panel, as shown. Said roller is partly broken away, disclosing a helical or spiral spring 17. Extending longitudinally through the roller and through the spring is a rod or bar 18, the outer ends thereof passing outward through said brackets 16 and being provided with suitable washers or nuts 19 to prevent lateral or longitudinal sliding.
One end of the spiral spring is made secure to the inner wall of the roller 15 and the opposite end to the rod 18, so that in the opening andclosing of the' door the tension of said spring will admit the sign-plate 10 to raise and lower over the transparent panel, at the same time holding the plate-supporting cords to a proper tension, as shown.
When the door is opened, it carries the pulleys 3 and 4 away from the casing 5, and the sign-plate 10 is raised by means of the 'pull of the cord 7 The pull of the tape 14;
be mounted on either or both sides of the sign-plate.
Having now fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
I In an advertising-door of the. characterdescribed, the combination of a door, a transparent panel carried by the door, a sign-plate suspended opposite said panel and adapted to be raised and lowered with the swing of the door, a suspending-cord, the upper end secured to the head-casing of a doorway, the
lower end thereof to the sign-plate, pulleys plate at its upper end, substantially as demounted to the head-rail of the door adapted scribed. ID to guide the suspending-cord from the head- In testimony whereof I afiix my signaturein casing to the sign-plate, brackets mounted on the presence of two witnesses.
5 the door under the transparent panel, aspring- LOUIS J LONG.
actuated roller mounted on said brackets, a Witnesses: tension cord adapted to wind around said M. L. LANGE, roller at its lower end and secured to the sign- M. N. HIGDON.-
