Description

UNIT ED STATES Patented May 23, 1905.
MATHIAS KUZEL, OF PENZBERG, GERMANY.
ROCK-DRILL MOUNT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,506, dated May 2?, 1905.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MA'IHIAS KUZEL, a citizen of Germany, residing at Penzberg, Bavaria, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rock-Drill Mounts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to rock-drill mounts, and has for its object the provision of mechanism by means of which the drill may be operated in slopes or drifts with the greatest economy of space combined with the highest efficiency in operation. In the form of apparatus hitherto used in this connection the drill is usually mounted either above or below a sleeve which is rotatably secured to a suitable standard or pillar, the result being that a comparatively large space is required for the operation of the drill, it being impossible to work close to the floor or roof ofthe drift. This disadvantage is obviated in the present invention by reason of its peculiar properties in that the mechanism for turning the sleeve, and with it the drill, is arranged midway of the sleeve itself, whereby the entire apparatus is condensed into such a I small space that the drill may be operated very close to the floor and roof, approximately within thirty-five centimeters thereof. In order to make this invention perfectly clear, an embodiment of the same is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the mount, partly in section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a side elevation at right angles to Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 represents the apparatus assembled in its entirety, showing the manner of operation.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a pillar or standard I) is erected in the ordinary well-known way. Upon this standard is arranged a worm-wheel c, which is movable longitudinally thereof, but fixed against rotary movement relative thereto by means of a spline d and groove d. A bifurcated sleeve it encircles the standard, embracing with its bifurcated portion the worm-wheel Application filed October 10,1904. Serial No. 227,864.
0. This sleeve is loosely' mounted on the standard 6, and therefore capable of rotation, being adjustably held in any desired position by means of the collar gand set-screw. The sleeve 72. is provided with projections which serve as .bearings for the worm e, the axle of whichis provided with the crank f. An arm a, projecting from the sleeve it, serves as a pivotal mounting for the drill i.
It will be noted that the pivotal mounting of the drill is in substantially the same horizontal plane as the worm'c and the axle of the worm e, which plane is approximately midway of the ad justing-sleeve it. By this arrangement, as heretofore pointed out, it is possible to operate the drill from a position in close proximity to the bottom and top of the drift.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a drill-mount, the combination, with a standard, and a sleeve adjustable thereon, of a drill mounted directly on the sleeve at a point substantially in the plane of the transverse axis thereof i 2. In a drill-mount, the combination, with a standard, a sleeve adjustable vertically thereon, and a means for rotating the sleeve upon the standard, of a drill mounted on the sleeve at a point substantially in the same horizontal plane as the means for rotating the sleeve.
3. In a drill-mount, the combination, with a standard, a sleeve adjustable vertically thereon, a worm-wheel adjustable on the standard by means of a spline and groove, and aworm carried by the sleeve and engaging with the worm-wheel, of a drill mounted on the sleeve at a point substantially within a horizontal a spline and groove and occupying a position in the bifurcated portion of the sleeve, a worm carried by the sleeve and engaging With the In testimony whereof I hereunto aliix my Worm-Wheel, and a crank for operating the signature in the presence of two Witnesses. Worm, of an arm projecting from the sleeve, and a drill mounted on the arm at a point 5 substantially within a horizontal plane em- Witnesses:
bracing the Worm, and Worm-Wheel and pass- MICH. KUZEL. ing through the transverse axis of the sleeve. ADoLF EIGHINGER.
