PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. FIELDS, OF PADUOAH, KENTUCKY.
RAILWAY-RAIL ANCHOR- SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 790,354, dated May 23, 1905.
Application filed February 11,1905. Serial No. 245,258.
1b a whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, -GEORGE F. FIELDs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paducah, in the county of McCracken and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Railway-Rail Anchor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for coupling or anchoring a block or fall or single or double line hitch to a railway-track rail for use in clearing up wrecks or for other purposes where it is desired to make connection for any purpose to a railway-track, and has for its object to simplify and improve the construction of devices of this character.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming. a
part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designatmg characters, is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of theinvention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the device of the invention applied to a rail in position for operation and showing tackle connected therewith. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken through the device applied 'to the rail and showing the link in a raised position.
The improved device comprises two plates 10 11, having recesses in their lower adjacent portions conforming to and closely embracing the opposite sides of the ball or tread, vertical web, andtie-flange of a railway-rail 12 and with the portions above the rail provided with transverse apertures 13 14 for loosely .receiving an endless pull link 15.
'Theupwardly-extended portions of the plates are further connected by transverse clampbolts 16 17, disposed near the ends of the plates and provided with nuts 18 19, preferably with operating-levers 2O 21.
The device is disposed uponthe rail at one reach of derricks or other hoisting apparatus,
and the simple device herein shown and de scribed is a very convenient structure for this purpose.
The device can be easily handled by one man and quickly placed in position or removed when required and clamped to the rail at any required locality.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A railway-rail anchor comprising two plates for embracing the rail from opposite sides and extending above the same and provided with centrally-disposed transverse apertures in said upwardly-extended portions, the lower portions of said plates conforming to the ball, vertical web and tie flange of the rail, and transverse tie-bolts connecting the plates near the ends and above the rail.
2. A railway-rail anchor comprising two plates for embracing the rail from opposite sides and extending above the same and provided with centrally-disposed transverse apertures in said upwardly-extended portions, the lower portions of said plates conforming to the ball, vertical web and tie-flange of the rail, transverse tie-bolts connecting the plates near the ends and above the rail, and an endless link engaging said transverse apertures. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
