PATENT OFFICEO EDWARD HOEY, OF CANAL FULTON, OHIO.
WASHBASIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 789,736, dated May 16, 1905.
Application filed August 23, 1904. Serial No. 221,843.
To a/ZZ whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD HoEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canal Fulton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vashbasins; and I do hereby declare that the following is a clear, full, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciication, and to the iigures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a view of the basin, showing the same properly connected together with my improved device. Fig. 2 is a View showing a portion of the waste-pipe in section and a sectional view of the valve. Fig. 3 is a view showing the bottom or lower end of the valveoperating rod, together with stop-pins. Fig. 4 is a View of the valve, showing the same properly located with reference to the wastepipe. Fig. 5 is a transverse section of the knob-shaft, showing the same properly located with reference to the bracket and illustrating the valve-arm and link properly located and also showing the stop-arm.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the wash basin or bowl, which is suspended in the basin-plate 2, which basin-plate is supported in the usual manner.
To the basin 1 is attached the waste-pipe 3, which waste-pipe is provided with the valvesection 4, said valve-section being provided with the valve 5.
It will be understood that the waste-pipe 3 is to be extended to proper sewer connection or to a cesspool, as the case may be.
The valve 5 is provided with the operatingrod 6, to which operating-rod is attached the link 7, which link is connected to the arm 8, which arm is iixed to the knob-shaft 9, which knob-shaft is extended upward and its top or upper end provided with the knob 10.
For the purpose of properly holding the bottom or lower end of the knob-shaft 9 the bracket 11 is provided, which bracket is clamped to the waste-pipe 3 by means of the clamps 12, located above and below the valvesection 4, respectively.
The bracket 11 is provided with the integral bent portion 13, between the members of which is located the arm 8.
It will be understood that by rotating the knob-shaft 9 in one direction the arm 8 will pull the link 7, which in turn will open the valve 5 by means of the operating-rod 6.
For the purpose of stopping the rotation of the valve-rod 9 at the proper point said valverod is provided with the collar 14, which collar is provided with the stop-arm 15, said stop-arm being so located that it will come in contact with one member of the integral bent portion 13 or its equivalent.
When it is desired to close the valve, the knob-shaft 9 is rotated in the opposite direction, which moves the valve in the direction to close the same. It will, how'ever, be understood that this movement may be reversed and the same object accomplished.
The only object to be accomplished is to open and close the valve 5 by rotating the knob-shaft 9 in opposite directions.
The delivery end of the waste-pipe 3 is provided with the check-disk 16, which checkdisk is hinged in such a manner that it will fall by gravity and close the end of the wastepipe, thereby forming a trap to cut off sewergas.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of a wash basin or bowl held in iixed position, a waste-pipe connected to the wash basin or bowl, a valve-section provided with a valve, said valve-section connected to the waste-pipe, a bracket held in iixed position upon the waste-pipe, a knob-shaft journaled in the bracket, and provided with an arm, a valve-operating rod secured to the valve, a link pivotally connected to the arm of the knob-shaft, and the valve-operating rod respectively, and a stop-arm adapted to limit the rotation of the knob-shaft, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD HOEY.
