Description

@aitrt gieten iatraiQffirn JOHN KEER AND DAYTON O. HERE, OE AMES, IOWA, AssIeNons 'ro rrHEM SELVES AND s. H. MiLLEE, OE SAME PLAO y LettersPatcnt No. 78,807, dated Jima 9, 1868.
IMPROVED SLIDE-SNAP FOR HARNESS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: v p
Be it known that we, JOHN KEER and DArroN C. KEEP., of Ames, in the county offStory, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Slide-Snap Hooks for Harness; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the Vaccompanying drawings, making part ef this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon,l'ike letters indicating like parts wherever they occur. Y
To enable others skilled `in the art to construct and use our invention, we will proceed to describe it.
Our invention relates toy haress-iixtures, and consists in Athe construction of an 'adjustable or slide-snap hook, te be'attached to the padsof the saddle of the harness, so that when the harness is placed on horses of diderent sizes, the distance between the saddle and the thi-lis may be conveniently regulated, and thus obviate the necessity of using buckles.
In the drawings- Figure l is a perspective view, and
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section.r
In constructing oui` device, we take a flat piece of any suitable metal, A, suiiiciently strong for our puri pose, and shape it as shown in fig. 1. To its 4upper side we attach ai loop, or hollow nietal cover or socket, B,
shaped as shoivn in the sameLig. 1, and large enough to admit the sl1auk,C, of an ordinary snap-hook, D,
through its lower end, left open for that purpose.
The socket B, 4andvnietal plate A, we provide with holes, in which we inserta short bolt, a.providled withV a head, Z2, as shown in g. 2. YThe under side of thernetal plate A we provide with rivets, c, for attaching it to 'the pads of the harness-saddle.
We make a snap-hook, D, in the ordinary manner, of the size suitable for our purpose, and provide it with a long shank, c, in which we make a series of holes, E, large enough for the bolt a to pass through, so that when the shank C is passed under the cover D, the snap-hook D may be adjusted at different heights.
When our device, constructed as described, is attached to the padof the saddle of the harness, the snaphook D can be conveniently adjusted so as to accommodate horses of different sizes. VThe thills of the wagon may be provided with hooksor rings, or the tugs may have a.hook or ring, which can at allV times` be slipped into or taken out of the snap-hook D when desired.
By means of this simple and cheap device itis evident that the use of buckles, or similar devices, for adjusting the height of the tug, will be obviated, and that for many purposes tugswill not be necessary, or when used that they may remain upon the thills.. Our dcvice'will be found especially useful on all cartharnesses. I
Having thus described our invention, what wc claiinis* The adjustable snap-hook D, in combination with the metal plate A and socket B, all constructed and arranged substantially as herein described, for being attached to thepad OF the saddle ofaharness, as set forth.
` JOHN, KEER,
DAYTON C. KEER.
