UNTTen STATES PATENT @Trice THOMAS P. CHEEVERS, OF ll'FiST HOBOKEN, NFV JERSEY.
HAIR-DRYING CONIB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 787,148, dated April 11, 1905.
Application tiled August 27, 1904. Serial No. 222,391.
15e it known that l, Triouas P. Cnnnvnns, a citi/.en ot the United States, and a resident ot ll'est l'loboken. in the eountyot` Hudson and I State ot- New Jersey. have invented a new and lmproved Hair-Drying' Comb, ot' wliich the lolh-nving' is a t'ull, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in combs. particularly for use ot' women Vtor drying' the hair al'ter washing' or shampooing' the head. the object being' to provide a drying'- comb that will be ot simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and by means ot' which vthe hair may be quickly dried.
l will describe a hair-drying' comb embodying' my invention and then point out the novel t'eatures in the appended claims.
l'et'erence is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming' a part otl this specitication. in which similar characters ot' reference indicate ctn'responding' parts in all the lig'urcs.
Figure l is a section on the line l l ot' Fig'. 23 ot' a hair-drying comb embodying' my invention. Fig'. is a section on the line 2 2 ot Fig'. l, and Fig'. a is a section on the line Z5 3 ot Fig'. l.
Referring' to the drawings 5 designates the 1 body ot' the comb. which is hollow and as here shown cylindrical; but it is to be understood that it may be otherwise shaped without departing' from the spirit ot my invention.
llxtended trom the body and communicating' with the interior thereot' are hollow teeth o. These teeth have a width substantially equal to the diameter ot' the body, and thus a very large heating-surface is provided in each tooth, and this area may be somewhat in-` creased by transversely curving' the teeth with a spiral trend, as clearly indicated in Fig'.
The back ot the body is provided with an opening' T. and one end is also provided with an opening' H. The walls ot' these openings are threaded to engagea closing-plug' E) anda handhl lll. The sci'c\\'-thread ot the plug' and the screw-tln'eml ot' the handle are ot' equal size and pitch. so that the handle may be placed l at the end, as indicated in Fig'. l, and the plug' in the back opening', or they may be reversed it' found more convenient in handling' the comb. The handle is preferably of wood or other poor conductor ot' heat.
ln using' the comb it is to be lilled with hot water, and this ot' course will heat up the metal body and the teeth, so that when the teeth are drawn through the hair the moisture will be evaporated. The body and teeth may consist ol any suitable metal- YYsuch, lor instance, as aluminium. The inner end ol the handle is provided with a screw-driver ll, which may be inserted in the kertl in the plug' for the purpose ot inserting' or removing' it.
llavingthns described my invention. lclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- l. A hair-drying' comb comprising' a hollow body provided with hollow teeth, the said body having' an opening' in its end and an opening' in its back, a handle tor eng'ag'ing' in either one ot' said openings, and a plug' t'or engaging' in either one of the said openings.
A hair-drying' comb comprising' a hollow body, and hollow teeth communicating' with the body. the said teeth being' transversely curved with a spiral trend.
3. A hair-drying' comb comprising' a` hollow' body, and hollow teeth having' a width substantially equal to the diameter olr the body, the said teeth being' transversely curved with a spiral trend.
l. A hair-drying comb comprising' a hollow body having' an opening' in its back and an opening' in its end, a handle for engaging' in either one ot" said openings, a plug' tor engaging' in either one ot' said openings, and hollow teeth communicating' with the body the said teeth having' a width substantially equal tothe diameter ot the body, and transversely curved.
ln testimony whereot' l havesig'ned my name to this specilication in the presence ot two subscribing' witnesses.
