Description

MELVIN WOOD, OF BABES O-ORNERS, MICHIGAN.
etters .Patent lVo. 78,76, dated June 9, 1868.
IMIROVEMENT IN GHURNS.
@Ligt 511mm refttrch tt in tlgsse letters nteut mit mating, pitt nf itc sume.
Know all men that 1, MELVIN WOOD, of Babes Corners, in the county of Macomb, and State of Michigan, have invented a new and 4useful Improvement in a Ohurn; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to theacco-mpanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification.
y This iinvention is designed to facilitate the process .oi' butter-making, by rapidly separating the butterfrom the milk, by means of oscillatingdashers, which can be Worked with great rapidity in aoream-chambeir properly placed in a box to contain hot or cold Water, as the case may require, to keep the temperature of the cream a`t the proper degree, which water operates upon the outside of the cream-chamber. r
In order to accomplish lthis object, I construct a. rectangular box, A. The rear corner-posts B B extend far enough aboverthe box to form proper bearings for the double crank C, fron "ch the connecting-rods D D give motion to the oscillating-dasl1ers E E, 4which pass through'and are pivoted to t..e cover F. Inside this box A is placed a false bottom, Gr, made. tight with the box n'pon its four sides, and, which forms the bottom of the cream-chamber.
Between the bottom' of the cream-chamber (which should be conca-ve or crescent-shaped) and the bottom and to draw o' the water. J is an 'opening` in'the side ofthe box, above the bottom of the cream-chamber,
ends of the box are water-spaces. H is an opening, for the introduction of the water, and I is another opening, V through which to draw oit` the buttermilk. K is the Water-space above referred to.
The drawing represents the churn partially in section.
What I claim as'my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the box A, posts B B, double crank C, the connecting-rods D D, the oscillating-dashers E E, the cover F, the false bottom G, the openings H I J, and the balance-Wheel K, and water-spaces L I, when arranged and operating for the purposes herein set forth.
