AMOS JACKSON SCRITCHFIELD, OF JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN.
HOT-WATER BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,638, dated March 21, 1905.
Application filed June 2, 1904. Serial No. 210,901.
To all whom it 711,003/ con/cern:
Be it known that I, AMos JACKSON ScRITcH- FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Janesville, in the county of Rock and State of VVisconsimhaveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Hot-I/Vater Bottles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear` and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in hot-water bottles; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
One object of my invention is to provide a hot-water bottle or other vessel with a plurality of removable covers which may be successively removed as the water cools in the bottle or vessel, so as to prolong the effective use thereof. A
Afurther object of my invention is to provide a novel inner cover for the bottle or other vessel, which cover is removable therefrom and is open at one side, closed at the opposite side, and is provided at its open side with means to secure it on the bottle or vessel.
In the accompanying' drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hot-water bottle, showing the intermediate cover partially removed from the outer cover. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved hot-water bottle, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of the same.
The water bottle or vessel l may be made of any suitable form and of any suitable material. The same is placed in an inner cover 2, the sides 3 of which are made of thin sheets of cork connected together at one edge, as at` 4, and having their opposite edges open, as at 5, and provided with cords 6, whereby they may be tied together, so as to confine the bottle between the said sides 2. The cork sheets 3 have their outer sides covered with a suitable cloth fabric 7, pasted or glued thereon, and the'outer sides of the said fabric are covered with paper 8,' which is glued or pasted thereon. The said cover is a good non-conductor of heat and enables the bottle to be filled With water at the boiling-point, the non-conducting cover rendering the bottle agreeable to the patient. Y
The inner cover is placed in an intermediate cover 9, which is in the form of a bag, having `one end open, as at 10, and provided with a draw-string 11, whereby it may be closed. The said intermediate cover comprises an outer fabric 12, an inner fabric 13,
and a filling of cotton-batting or other nonconducting material 14 between the said inner and outer fabrics. The inner cover containing the bottle having been placed in the intermediate lcover, the latter is placed in an outer cover 15, which is similar in construction to the intermediate cover, having one end open, as at 16, and provided with a drawstring 17, the outer cover comprising an outer fabric 18, an inner fabric 19, and a filling 2O of cotton-batting or other suitable non-conducting material.
It Will be understood that as the Water in the bottle cools the covers of the bottle may be successively removed, so as to prolong the effective use of the bottle.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hot-water bottle having an inner cover formed of sheets of cork and fabric secured on opposite sides thereof, said inner cover being open on one side and having means to close and fasten said open sides, intermediate and outer covers each comprising an inner and an outer fabric and a non-conducting elastic filling between them, said covers being telescopically related' and successively removable, the said intermediate and outer covers being each open at one end and having means to close and fasten the said open end, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AlllOS JACKSON SGRITCHFIELI).
