SECRET-SEALING MEANS FOR VESSELS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,011, dated March 14, 1905.
Application filed August 14, 1903. Serial No. 169,544.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ABBoT AUGUSTUS Low, a citizen of the United States, residing at Horseshoe, county of St. Lawrence, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Secret-Sealing Means for Vessels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sealing vessels which contain liquids to indicate if they have been tampered with; and to this end it consists in certain elements and combinations fully set forth in and claimed at the end of this specification.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may understand, construct, and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it, referring to the drawings herewith, in which.
Figure 1 is an outside elevation of a bottle with a cap secured upon it. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section of the same, showing a bottle with a cap secured upon it and having a central opening in the top surface of the cap, a stopper located in the bottleneck beneath the cap and the central opening, and a seal of adherent material, such as sealing-wax, applied to the top surfaceof the cap and to the top surface of the stopper. Fig. 3 is a top or plan view of same.

I have shown my invention as applied to a bottle sealed with a cap which has indents in its exterior flange which take into grooves in a bead upon the outside of the neck of the bottle near its top and is secured to the bottle by turning the cap circumferentially to grip the under side of the said head to secure it; but other forms of cap may be used to apply my invention to, provided the top surface of the stopper is exposed through an opening in the top surface of the cap.
In sealing a bottle the cap is secured upon the mouth of the bottle and a stopper is forced into the bottle-neck through the opening in the top surface thereof, or a stopper may be placed in the bottle-neck and acap with a central opening in its upper surface placed upon the bottle-mouth by pressure and then secured. A quantity of adherent material, as
sealing-wax, is then placed over and caused to adhere to the top surface of the cap and to the top surface of the stopper, so that the cap cannot be removed from the bottle without breaking the seal.
Having now fully described my invention and the manner in which I have embodied it, what I claim as new and as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a means for safety-sealing vessels, the combination, consisting of a cap secured over a vessel-mouth, and provided with an opening in its top surface; a stopper located beneath said cap, and its opening; a mass of adherent material secured to both the cap and the stopper, substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore specified.
