UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN C. REED, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO STANDARD SANITARY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVA- NIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
LAVATORY AND LAVATORY-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,962, dated March 14, 1905. Application filed June 20, 1903. Renewed February 10, 1905. Serial No. 245,059.
1'0 all whom it may concern: The back or wall-plate c is generally and Be it known that I, JOHN C. REED, acitizen preferably cast integral with the bowl and 5 -of the United States, residing at Allegheny, horizontal slab and is dished or recessed on in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennits inner side, thus forming a curved or flanged sylvania, have invented certain new and useupper edge e, from which, as seen, depend the fullmprovementsin LavatoriesandLavatory- Wedge-shaped lugs g g, constituting part of Supports; andIdo hereby declare the followthe means for attaching the lavatory to the 55 ing to be a full, clear, and exact description of supporting frame. Upon the back of the the invention, such as will enable others skilled plate a, near its lower part, is cast a horizon- IO in the art to which it appertains to make and tal shelf or bracket D, having a slightly-tause the same. pered hole or opening /i at its middle part and This invention has relation to lavatories and bolt holes or slots 2 '2. near its ends. 60 lavatory-supportlng devices, and has for its Gdeslgnates the supportlng-frame, preferobject the provision of novel means for supably of skeleton form, with the upper and 5' porting a lavatory or similar object against lower horizontal bars 7c 71: and the side bars a wall without the use of brackets, standards, Z Z. Near the ends of the bar 71* rectangular or other exposed supporting devices such as sockets 172M111, open at the back and top, are 5 are now commonly employed. formed and have inclined or wedge-shaped The structure embodying my invention emsurfaces at a to contact with the wedge-shaped braces as an essential element a cast-metal orinclined surfaces ofthelugsgg, which when frame, preferably of skeleton form, to be sethe lavatory is in position fitinto said sockets cured to the wall against which the lavatory and when pressed down cause the plate or slab 7 rests by screws or bolts and so constructed 0 to be drawn closely against the wall, thus that the lavatory, formed with suitable conforming a more perfect joint between the wall 5 necting or engaging means located behind its and slab. The frame G is attached to the wall-slab or back, may be hung upon or firmly wall by screws or bolts inserted in holes 0 0, attached to said frame, the connecting and properly countersunk to receive the heads 75 sustaining devices being entirely concealed of the screws or bolts. Upon the bar 71;, at
from view and of such character that the lavaor near its upper edge, is cast a horizontal 3 tory may be easily removed and replaced, the shelf or bracket P, similar to and matching whole constituting an economical, convenient, the shelf or bracket D and having bolt-holes and sanitary arrangement for the purpose inp p for the reception of bolts 2. t, by which tended. the two shelves or brackets are fastened to- In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is gether when the lavatory is in position. The
a front view of the lavatory-supporting frame. shelf or bracket P is cast with a wedge-shaped Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. Fig. 3 is a pin R, which enters the hole and forms an vertical sectional view through the lavatory additional means for holding the lavatory in 5 and supporting-frame on the line 0 of Fig. position, thus cooperating for this purpose 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view illustrating a and with like effect with the lugs r g. When 4 modification of part of the structure, and Fig. the frame G is in position and secured to the 5 is a horizontal sectional view of a portion of wall, the lavatory is attached thereto by being the wall-plate and support shown in Fig. 3. raised up to the proper height and then low- A designates a lavatory, which may be of ered so that the lugs g g Willenter the sockets any suitable pattern or design, comprising an m and the pin R enter the hole /L. The

The boltst t are then inserted and nuts fitted thereon.
In Fig. 4 I have illustrated a modification of part of the structure, which consists in forming the pin R with a notch '1' on its inner side to receive a wedge-shaped key T, which when the parts are in position is driven into this notch between its surface and the back of the plate a and in this position bears against the upper surface of the bracket D and serves to interlock the parts together, thus dispensing with the bolts t t. The top part of the key T may be serrated or toothed and the recess in the pin formed with a swell on its upper side or edge, as shown in dotted lines, so that when the key is driven past this swell there will be sufiicient spring or friction to prevent the key from being driven out or accidentally displaced.
Having described my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A lavatory-supporting structure, consisting of a frame, adapted to be attached to a wall, and formed with sockets, and other connecting and supporting means, in combination with a lavatory having a vertical back or wallplate extending above the surface of the lavatory-slab and formed with devices, adapted to engage with the sockets and other supporting devices of said frame, said wall-plate having its upper edge flanged outwardly, substantially as described.
2. The Wall-frame G, having the sockets g, g, and the shelf or bracket P, having the wedgeshaped pin R, with a recess or notch formed in one side, and a wedge-shaped key fitting said notch in combination with a lavatory, having a back, or wall-plate, provided with lugs to engage with the sockets on the wallframe, and with a shelf or bracket D, having a hole for the reception of the pin R, substantially as described.
3. A lavatory or similar article, the parts of which are cast integral, having an upright back, or wall-plate, with its upper edge flanged outwardly, and formed with depending lugs, in combination with a frame or support to be attached to a wall, and provided with means for engaging or interlocking with said lugs, substantially as described.
4. The combination with a lavatory comprising a how], a slab and a wall-plate rising above said slab and having an outwardlyturncd edge or flange and means for attachment to a supporting-frame, of a supportingframe adapted to be secured to a wall and to be entirely concealed by said wall-plate.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
