APPLICATION FILED AUG. 11, 1904.

PATENT FFICE.
ROBERT GRAHAM, OF GREELEY, COLORADO.
SACK OR BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,559, dated March 14, 1905. Application filed August 11, 1904. Serial No. 220,395.
To (tZZ whom/ it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT GRAHAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greeley, in the county of Veld and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sacks or Bags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in sacks or bags, and has particular reference to a sack adapted for grain, vegetables, flour, sugar, wool, fruits, and such merchandise as it could be used for to advantage.
The object of my invention is the provision of a sack or bag which will possess the necessary strength to withstand hard usage and have a long life, which can be produced at a low price, which can be readily handled and filled and closed with ease, which will properly protect the goods in shipment, and which will be generally efiicient and practical in every respect.
Vith this object in view my invention consists of a bag or sack of novel construction and combination of parts substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the sack with the mouth closed and ready for shipment. Fig. 2 represents a similar view with the mouth open. Fig. 3 represents a detail view of a modified construction. Fig. 4 represents a detailed view of another modilied construction. Fig. 5 represents a detailed view of another modified construction.
In the drawings the letter A designates the bag or sack, which is provided upon one side of its mouth with the flap B, provided with a reinforcing band or strip O, in which is fitted a series of hooks I), having pointed or sharpened ends E. adapted when the flap is closed to engage the material and lock the flap closed. The mouth of the bag is further provided with the contiguous band or strip F, which is extended to form the handles G, and from this construction it will be seen that a large mouth-opening is provided, which permits the ready filling of the bag, and that the flaring flap or cover can be easily secured when the sack is filled, and the handles project so as to be easily grasped for the purpose of handling the sack. In the form of myinvention shown in Fig. 3 I provide the handled or projecting portions with loops or rings H,
which are properly secured to the projecting portions and form a convenient means of handling the sacks.
In the form shown in Fig. 4 the separable clamping-fastener J is provided, and in the form shown in Fig. 5 I provide a separate top or cover K, which is provided with fasteners L for engaging the sack to secure the top in position.
It is obvious that 1 provide a sack which can be easily and quickly filled, which is particularly useful for perishable goods, which can be conveniently shipped and handled, and which may be made of any desired material.
I claim- A sack or bag made of flexible material and composed of the body of uniform size to the mouth, having the enlarged and flaring mouth portion provided with extensions, the flap or cover having the curved top, and inclined ends to snugly lit the mouth, and fastenings carried by the flaps to engage the body of the sack to secure the flaps over the mouth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT GRAHAM.
