This lnventlon relates to shoe-fastemngs, such as are designed to secure the ends of shoelaces in such manner as to prevent the knot thereof from becoming untied or to avoid the necessity of tying a knot.
The objects of the invention are to improve and simplify the construction of such devices; furthermore, to increase their efliciency and operation and to decrease the expense attending their manufacture.
With the foregoing and other minor objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the precise combination and arrangement of parts and in the exact details of construction hereinafter described and claimed as a practical embodiment thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a shoe-upper, showing the manner of applying and using the improved fastening. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the shoe upper, the improved fastening being shown in side elevation. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the improved fastening with its clamping member open.
Like reference numerals indicate corresponding parts in the different views.
The improved fastening preferably comprises a base-plate l and a clamping member 2, which are hinged together in any suitable manner, as indicated at 3. The base-plate 1 is secured to the shoe-upper t in any suitable manner-such, for example, as by eyelets or rivets 5.
The clamping member 2 is provided with a spring 6, the terminals 7 8 of which are in engagement with the clamping member, while the intermediate portions are separated therefrom, as indicated clearly in Fig. 2. In order to reduce the expense attending the manufacture of the device, the spring 6 is formed integral with the clamping member 2 at the end 8 thereof and is bent back upon said clamping member. Upon opposite sides of the integral spring (5 the clamping member 2 is formed with rearwardly-bent tongues 9, surrounding the pin 3,extendingthrough a tongue 10, formed upon the base-plate l, the tongues 9 9 and I0 and the pin 3 thus constituting means for hinging the clamping member 2 to the base-plate 1. The clamping member 2 is locked to the base-plate 1 in any suitable manner. A convenient form of locking means is illustrated in the drawings as comprising a ball member 11 upon the base-plate 1 and a socket member 5 12 upon the clamping member 2, said balland-socket members 11 and 12 cooperating with each other to hold the clamping member securely in locked position.
One convenient method of employing the 7 improved shoe-fastening is illustrated in Fig.
1, from which it will be seen that the shoelaces are tied in a bow-knot in the usual manner, and the loops and terminals of said laces are extended across the two base-plates l and 75 are held securely thereagainst by the springs 6 of the clamping members 2.
Minor changes in the precise embodiment of invention illustrated and described may be made within the scope of the following claims 30 without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
